Carl Erik Rinsch is in negotiations to direct a remake of the 1976 sci-fi film Logan’s Run according to Deadline. Many been waiting for Rinsch to get his hands on a movie after seeing his great short film The Gift. He was set to direct the Alien prequel until Ridley Scott decided he wanted to direct it himself, and he was one of the directors in talks to direct X-Men: First Class before Matthew Vaughn was confirmed.
Logan’s Run, based on a 1967 novel by William F. Nolan and George Clayton Johnson, sees a future society that demands the death of everyone upon reaching a certain age. Anyone who veers from that destiny is dubbed a “runner” and is hunted by operatives known as Sandmen. Logan is a Sandman who is forced to go on the run.
X2 director Bryan Singer was originally set to direct the remake but he decided to direct Superman Returns instead. The film has been in development hell for a few years, but Warner Bros. snapped up Rinsch following the debut of his short film, which you can watch below.
Warner Bros. will be hiring a new writer to work on the script, and Rinsch may direct 47 Ronin for Universal before starting on Logan’s Run, but if The Gift is anything to go by we’re in for another sci-fi treat.
