While Marvel is still deciding who will direct the Captain America sequel, they’ve already set their sights on a release date. According to Disney Captain America 2 will hit screens on April 4, 2014 and will “pick-up where the highly anticipated Marvel’s The Avengers leaves off, as Steve Rogers continues his affiliation with Nick Fury and S.H.I.E.L.D and struggles to embrace his role in the modern world.”
At the moment the sequel has no competition, but that will no doubt change as studios set their 2014 schedules. April proved to be a great release window for Thor and Fast Five last year, and studios are always trying to be first out of the gate with their summer tentpoles.
As for the director, last week we heard that George Nolfi, the writer-director of The Adjustment Bureau; F. Gary Gray, best known for directing The Italian Job; and Community duo Anthony and Joseph Russo were in contention along with a whole bunch of others. We can expect an official announcement sometime this month.
