Benjamin Walker to play Beast in X-Men: First Class

Update: Roger Friedman confirms that Benjamin Walker will be playing Beast!

More X-Men: First Class speculation this week. An article on ArtBeat states that actor Benjamin Walker “has been offered an enviable movie role in a coming “X-Men” project” and he may have to leave stage play Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson as a result.

Comic Book Movie also noticed an article on The Independant (which has since been removed) which said that Walker would either be playing a young Henry McCoy/Beast or Sean Cassidy/Banshee.

Given that Walker, who had small roles in Flags of our Fathers and Kinsey, is 6’3 and a stage actor i’d say he’s a pretty good match to play Henry McCoy. As First Class is a prequel Beast will be a bit older than the teen X-Men but younger than Xavier and Magneto. X-Men: First Class will also provide Vaughn and Singer the opportunity to show how McCoy transformed from a young medical doctor into the blue furry mutant with superhuman strength and agility we saw in X3.

Here’s a video of Walker. I think he’ll be great in the role.

In related First Class news Kick-Ass comic writer Mark Millar recently tweeted:

Just off the phone with Matthew Vaughn as we concoct another wee plan. He’s very excited about X-Men. It sounds amazing.
