avatar movie stillsIt was only a matter of time! According to Variety James Cameron’s Avatar has made over $1 billion worldwide in just 17 days. It is now the 4th highest grossing film ever (not counting inflation) and has overtaken The Dark Knight, with it’s sights set on Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest ($1,066.2) and The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King ($1,119.1). From the looks of things James Cameron will have both Titanic and Avatar at the number #1 and #2 spots.

Avatar‘s current box office gross in the US stands at $352.1 million after taking in $68.3 million this weekend, and it has made $670.2 million overseas. Looking at the month ahead there doesn’t seem to be any major competition. We have Daybreakers, The Book of Eli, Legion and Mel Gibson’s Edge of Darkness, neither of which pose a major threat, so Avatar could continue to bring in the $$$ well into January.

Awesome! :D I hope it makes it to the #2 slot.
I still don't think it'll surpass Titanic, but, who knows. :3 Whatever happens.. James Cameron is totally back; kicking ass.

And showtimes at my theater are still sold out, almost half the showings. It's been like that for days, every time I check back, all the show times are sold out. xD So impressed.

Hell, my parents even went and saw this And I kid you not, I truly think the last movie either of them saw at the big screen was in fact… Titanic, lol. People's stories about grandmothers going to see this thing. Quite impressive really.

A well thought out movie dealing with complex issues. I thought the six legged animals, in contrast to the four limbed human-like species was very interesting. It's also too long of a stretch to believe that the Na'Vi are mammalian, with enough DNA sequencing to mix with our own. But that's a future problem, obviously not ours. So many cool topics to discuss! How can the “soul” be in two places at once?
