Alexandre Desplat to compose Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I

According to Film Score Monthly French composer and two time Oscar nominee Alexandre Desplat will score Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I. Desplat has scored films such as The Golden Compass, The Queen, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, New Moon and Julie & Julia.

Nicholas Hooper composed the scores for Order of the Phoenix and Half-Blood Prince (both great), however he decided not to return due to family commitments and he thought a certain composer named John Williams should return to finish what he began. Williams may actually return for Deathly Hallows: Part II, as Desplat has only signed up for the one film (so far as we know). It would be great if they could get Williams to finish off the franchise.

    Wait. SERIOUSLY?!

I love Alexandre Desplat, but all the other composers John Williams, Nicholas Hooper etc. did a fantastic job on the scores.

On the wikipedia page it says that Williams was going to come back to do the final score.

So Alexandre is doing JUST part 1 I'm assuming, and Part 2 is still up for grabs… probably for John Williams….? Okay!

      "other composers"?!
      Seriously?!
John Williams is just "another composer" to you?!…
Anyway, all Potter movies without Williams's score lost it all, in my opinion!

I hope it's not true!! He's not right for Harry Potter. His scores are not memorable enough. He's a great composer, but we need JOHN WILLIAMS back. If this news is true, John Williams better be returning for part two!

His score for The Curious Case of Benjamin Button was good. It even got nominated for an Oscar. I have a couple of songs on my ipod, but it's not very memorable. This makes me nervous.

i know that one was good…but the one in new moon makes me wanna cringed every time i hear it. it's too cheesy. we want something memorable. i wish nicholas hooper's the one doing the music score, i love his work in hbp especially 'when ginny kissed harry score' and 'in noctem'.

I think this is greaatt news =] I really don't think much of the music for the rest of the rest of the Harry Potter films, so hopefully it will now be better =]

Well – I think this is amazing news – I was actually over the moon when I found this out – Desplat is one of the last proper film composers! – Williams is the king of brilliant, memorable themes but all those notes flying all over the place, all the time!!! Makes me dizzy! Bring it on! I found Hooper a little bit minimalistic for my tastes at first, but his scores have really grown on me. My Favorite HP score was actually Doyles!… But there you go, different strokes etc etc….

Does anyone know what the song is for the opening trailer of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows? I know that Alexandre Desplat is the composer but i don't know what the song is.

Desplat didn't score the music in the trailer. It was Pfeifer Bros. Music, Glacial Supremacy. I forgot the name of the other song.
