1. Black Christmas
Black Christmas not only has the distinction of being the first ever Christmas horror movie, it’s also considered the first ever slasher movie. So everyone from Jason Voorhees to Chucky have this film starring a deranged Santa suit-clad serial killer to thank for spawning an entire genre. Despite having a seriously corny original title (Silent Night, Deadly Night. Seriously), Black Christmas is actually pretty damn scary. Expertly shot and paced, Black Christmas manages to keep you on the edge of your seat.
The film begins with gaggle of sorority sisters throwing a gala Christmas party, which is soon interrupted when people start to die. Turns out a crazy man has set up shop in the sorority house’s attic, and he’s decided to slaughter everyone in the house. While the killings aren’t very Christmas inspired (stabbing and strangling seems to be the killer’s favorite methods), Black Christmas still manages to make the holiday downright creepy.
