Over the weekend AICN received a tip from someone who attended a Q&A session in London for Source Code, which director Duncan Jones attended. While there Jones revealed that he will soon be meeting with 20th Century Fox regarding the possibility of him taking over The Wolverine following Darren Aronofsky’s departure, although he made clear he’d rather be making his own original stuff.
Well today during an interview with HeyUGuys Jones was asked directly about The Wolverine, and while he didn’t confirm or deny anything, he said he had meetings coming up after Source Code promotion is over, but it’ll have to be “a damn good film” to take him away from making his next original sci-fi script.
You can watch Jones being asked about The Wolverine below:
If Fox and Hugh Jackman manage to persuade Jones it would certainly being back confidence in the project. The director has only made two movies, but both Moon and Source Code are sitting comfortably at 90% on Rotton Tomatoes, a feat similar to what Christopher Nolan achieved with Memento (94%) and Insomnia (92%) a decade ago.
As Jones is passionate about making his own original sci-fi movies I can’t see him directing The Wolverine, but at least we know the studio and Hugh Jackman are aiming high in their search for a director.
Update: Jones also spoke to IGN recently, and said he thinks Wolverine is an interesting character.
“I think he’s a great character, and I don’t want to go dangerous ground here, but I’d say he’s more interesting to me than Batman. I think they’ve made a very successful run of films with that and I think a good Wolverine film could be an amazing thing.”
