YouTube to offer movie rentals?

youtube logoAccording to Variety YouTube is currently talking to a number of movie studios in order to start offering movie rentals online.

YouTube, Google Inc.’s online video streaming service, is in talks with Hollywood studios to rent new release movies online, according to people familiar with the talks.

The move follows similar deals by Apple Inc.’s iTunes and others.

A final deal would be contingent on pricing and an agreed-upon release date, said the people, who spoke on condition of anonymity because discussions were still ongoing.

If this works out I could probably see myself using it. If I suddenly get an urge to watch a movie I don’t own then iTunes is really the only service out there, and it’s not the best. I wonder if they will allow people to embed movies like they do with all their other videos?

Would you rent movies from YouTube?

Always depends on the quality! But in common I prefer the dvd rent store next door :) I always prefer the hard copy of games and movies.
