Woody Allen rarely acts in a movie which he didn’t write/direct himself and in the past few years, not even then. This is Allen’s first appearance in a film he didn’t direct in more than a decade – taking on the writer/director role instead for the new comedy Fading Gigolo is actor John Turturro. Funnily enough, Turturro has never been cast in a Woody Allen movie even though he would fit in quite nicely in that universe. This trailer has the feel of a Woody Allen movie and if you didn’t know better, you might think it was his own film. Turturro was most likely inspired by Woody’s style which explains his choice to cast him.
Here’s the trailer:
Fioravante (Turturro) decides to become a professional Don Juan as a way of making money to help his cash-strapped friend, Murray (Allen). With Murray acting as his “manager”, the duo quickly finds themselves caught up in the crosscurrents of love and money.
Fading Gigolo also stars Sharon Stone, Sofia Vergara, Vanessa Paradis, Bob Balaban and Liev Schreiber. It will be released on April 18th.
