Columbia wants to begin production on the Spider-Man reboot by the end of the year, and in order to do that they will need their Peter Parker. According to Heat Vision director Marc Webb has been meeting with actors quietly for several months, and has narrowed the list down to five possible candidates over the past week or two.
Here are the names:
Jamie Bell – The 24 year old British actor made a name for himself as Billy Elliot and went on to star in Peter Jackson’s King Kong, Defiance and Jumper. He also portrayed Tintin for Steven Spielberg, although the film won’t be released until December 2011 and we might not see his actual face as it was filmed using the same performance capture technology as Avatar.
Alden Ehrenreich – This 20 year old actor also has a connection with Spielberg, as the director apparently discovered him after watching a comedy video starring Ehrenreich at a bat mitzvah. He has appeared on a few TV shows and starred in Francis Ford Coppola’s Tetro last year.
Frank Dillane – Harry Potter fans will know the actor, who is 19, from Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince where he played a young Tom Riddle. He was the one who shared scenes with Professor Slughorn, not the younger one who Dumbledore visited. Despite his role only being small I thought Dillane was great in the part, and it’ll be interesting to see what else he can do other than play a cold blooded killer wizard.
Andrew Garfield – He is the oldest of the bunch at 27, which may be too old for the teenager Peter Parker Sony are going for. The actor appeared in The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus and will be seen in Never Let Me Go and The Social Network later this year.
Josh Hutcherson – We heard back in April that Hutcherson was on the shortlist. He turns 18 this year so he may be the ideal age for a teenage Spidey, however he recently signed up for the Journey to the Center of the Earth sequel so it may cause scheduling conflicts. Hutcherson will be seen in the Red Dawn remake later this year alongside Thor actor Chris Hemsworth.
Out of the names above i’d probably go for Jamie Bell, purely because he’s the actor i’m most familiar with and I know he can act. Who would you go for?

Prometheus
The Dark Knight Rises
The Hobbit
Man of Steel
Amazing Spider-Man
Skyfall
Star Trek 2
