Will Robert Rodriguez direct Deadpool?

deadpool spinoff20th Century Fox has sent out an offer to Sin City director Robert Rodriguez to direct Deadpool according to Production Weekly. It is only an offer at the moment and he may not take it up, but it seems Fox are happy with his work producing Predators and are keen on Rodriguez bringing his style to their Wolverine spin-off.

Despite signing up for Green Lantern (and presumably Green Lantern 2) Ryan Reynolds is still attached to play the Merc with the mouth, and Zombieland writers Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese have been working on the script over the past few months.

Rodriguez recently directed Machete which will be released in September, and he will be sitting in the director’s chair for Spy Kids 4: Armageddon later this summer so it will be at least another year before Deadpool begins filming if he takes on the job. It will also mean Sin City 2 won’t be moving forward anytime soon (not that it was expected too anyway).

Earlier this year Reynolds said his dream director would be Quintin Tarantino, but I suppose Rodriguez would be a suitable substitute. What are your thoughts on Robert Rodriguez possibly directing Deadpool?

    epic!
Rodruigez is a fantastic director, and has a brilliant view for a movie.
It's a good collaboration also, the fellows that wrote zombieland, the director of “sin city”, “planet terror”, “machete” and many other fantastic films, not to mention Ryan Reynolds as the lead role (on the side note, im a HUUUUGE Deadpool fan for the last 8 years or so, and when i saw “van wilder” i wanted RR to star as Deadpool in a feature live action movie, god probably really loves me ^^)

Mark my words, if this collab will happen? This movie will be the most epic comic book movie ever made!

he was good as deadpool in the first why not go ahead with it in the 2nd? the character has plenty to build on for the story line. Rodriguez is a badass director. just make it happen and you'll get an enormous response, especially because of Ryan Reynolds.

Micael Biehn as Cable is probably the most perfect casting choice for a comic book character ever.

But… the film should be about Deadpool first and foremost. Leave Cable for sequels if they happen.
