Will Matt Reeves or Tony Scott direct Wolverine 2?

wolverine 2 japan20th Century Fox has been focusing a lot of attention on X-Men: First Class recently as they prepare for filming at the beginning of August, but they haven’t forgotten about Wolverine 2 which we heard may begin filming in January. Given the lackluster reviews for X-Men: Origins Wolverine Gavin Hood won’t be directing, so who will?

From The Playlist:

We’re hearing that the search for the director for “Wolverine 2″ has quietly been underway and a host of Hollywood players have been courted for the gig. Several directors including Kathryn Bigelow, Timur Bekmambetov (who seems to be approached for anything and everything) and Daniel Espinosa (who helmed the buzzed about Swedish flick “Snabba Cash” and was considered for “X-Men: First Class”) have talked to the studio about the gig, but apparently Fox has narrowed it down to two choices: Matt Reeves and Tony Scott.

Matt Reeves made his big screen directorial debut with Cloverfield in 2008, and is currently wrapping vampire horror Let Me In which will be released in October. Reeves has nothing in the pipeline at the moment so he could potentially join now and be ready for a January shoot.

Tony Scott is the man behind Top Gun and more recently The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3. If Fox decide to go with Scott they may have to push filming back as he is scheduled to begin filming crime drama Potsdamer Platz with Mickey Rourke, Javier Bardem and Christopher Walken in January. He will probably be more expensive than Matt Reeves too, so Fox may hire a cheaper upcoming director than an established one who has been hit and miss over the years.

The Usual Suspects writer Christopher McQuarrie has written the script which takes Wolverine to Japan and is apparently a big improvement on X-Men: Origins Wolverine. Hugh Jackman tried to get Bryan Singer to direct but he is busy producing X-Men: First Class and will be filming Jack the Giant Killer in January. I think Jackman wants to make sure the next film isn’t a disappointment like last time round.

Who do you think should direct Wolverine 2?
