When Angelina Jolie decided against returning for a sequel to Wanted, the 2008 movie which made $350 million worldwide, it effectively killed any momentum the movie had. However last September Universal re-hired Michael Brandt and Derek Haas, writers of the first film, and the project appeared to be alive and well again.
Well Derek Haas has now given an update on its development, and revealed some details on what we can expect story-wise.
“The only thing I can tell you is that Wesley [James McAvoy] is now, four years later, recruiting a young woman who is in his situation in the first movie. She’s got a sh**ty life. He’s sort of in the Fox role. This new girl is brought into the world.”
It seems they’re sticking with a similar formula we saw in the first film, just with Wesley doing the recruiting this time round.
Director Timur Bekmambetov is returning, and he hasn’t lined up any other projects following the under-performance of Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter so Wanted 2 may be his next movie. James McAvoy will be busy working on X-Men: Days of Future Past during the first half of 2013 so things may get going sometime next year.
