50 films, in 73 years. In celebration of Tangled, the 50th animated Disney feature, Walt Disney Animation Studios have released a cool little “count up” montage video, counting up their 50 movies, all the way from 1937 to 2010. Watch it embedded, after the jump.
Disney are responsible for so much magic that it’s unbelievable. While there are, naturally, a few films that aren’t as good as others, overall they have created a huge catalogue of wonder, which is responsible for joy and nostalgia the world over. The charismatic characters, the brilliant animation, and the marvelous music. It’s hard not to feel happy while watching this video.
I think my absolute favourites from Disney Animation are Peter Pan and Alice in Wonderland, with others like Dumbo and The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh coming in close behind. But that’s just so I don’t create a huge list: I love many others, and a majority of the films that the animation giant has produced. Even the ones that aren’t as good, I don’t mind watching. Walt Disney started this all in 1923, an amazing 87 years ago.
It’s interesting to watch the changing styles in animation over the years, and if current talk is to be believed, we will start to see another change in it, coming after Winnie the Pooh, with Discworld and beyond. What seems to connect all these films together though, is the enjoyment that accompanies them. Having gone through somewhat of a lull recently, I hope that Tangled, next year’s Winnie the Pooh, and all that comes after them, can help get the studio back on track.
I also hope Disney get to make more videos like this in the future, with an even bigger library of films, and that Pixar make their own (particularly considering their currently-flawless filmography).
Apparently the song in the video is “Dreams” by Brandi Carlile. Many thanks to /Film for pointing me to the video, and for the name of the song!
