Twilight Takes Potters Release Spot

twilight1 300x216Yesterday Harry Potter And The Half-Blood Prince was moved by Warner Bros from November 21st back to July 2009 for various reasons, and this has caused quite a shake-up regarding the other November releases dates. First Disney’s Bolt moved into Potters old date and now Twilight has moved from December 12th to November 21st.

From THR:

“When Warner Bros. decided to move ‘Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince’ to the summer of 2009, we saw a unique opportunity to slot in our film which has been gaining tremendous awareness and momentum over the past several months,” Summit’s Rob Friedman said.

Striking a respectful tone, Friedman added, “We by no means are trying to fill the shoes of the incredible Potter franchise for 2008, rather we are just looking to bring the fans of Stephenie Meyer’s incredible book series the film as soon possible from a programming perspective.”

Twilight fans will be please with the shift as they get to see the movie 21 days earlier!

As a Harry Potter fanatic, I will not boycott the Harry Potter films, there is no way I could do that, but if Warner Brothers does not come through and release the film when they first agreed to, I will boycott all other Warner Brothers films, and anything connected to Warner Brothers. I think if all of the Harry Potter fans agreed to that, they would have to change their plans, and release the film as promised. Warner Brothers knows that Harry Potter fans will go to the movie WHENEVER they release it, so they think they hold all of the cards, but I don’t think they realize that if everything else was boycotted, they would stand to lose a substantial amount of dollars!!

I don't think boycotting works with anything. I think that is childish. It's just a movie. I am a fan of Harry Potter films. Things change, deal with it.

Hmm, I'm not that big a fan of either franchise, but HP will make more money than Twilight, because it's more well known. Personally I would have made Twilight a winter release (like it's going to be), where there isn't much competition, because it's only real fan base is teen girls. And put HP out in the summer to compete with the other big movies. There's more money in it that way. You must remember Warner Bros, is a business and their aim is to make money.

Don't get me wrong, I like Harry Potter, but moving back the release date is a smart move. First of all, at least it is months in advance. It is not like anybody has bought tickets or anything. For goodness sake, it is AUGUST not OCTOBER! Also, Twilight is liable to make a huge impact in the box office. Why would Warner Bros. want to compete with another large movie rather than make as much as they can no matter what. Plus, boycotting Warner Brothers due to one release dat change is the stupidest thing I have ever heard!
