We can expect a Tron: Legacy sequel in 2013 according to Bruce Boxleitner

Update: Tron: Legacy writers give an update on the sequel – It’s happening!

When Tron: Legacy hit screens in December its opening weekend wasn’t that great ($44 million), which gave the impressions it would under-perform for Disney, but in the end it made $400 million worldwide, and in April director Joseph Kosinski said “we are working on the story now” for the sequel.

This was followed by the hiring of David DiGilio (Eight Below) in June to get started on the script, and now Bruce Boxleitner (Alan Bradley/Tron) has suggested the sequel could hit in 2013.

Here’s Boxleitner talking to fan at Disney’s D23 Expo last week (via AICN):

Director Joseph Kosinski has previously said he’d love to return, but his next movie will be Horizons with Tom Cruise which is expected to start shooting later this year, so if he is returning to direct production on the sequel won’t begin until after he’s completed that (Horizons‘ release date is July 19, 2013).

The story for the sequel will likely start off with Quorra (Olivia Wilde) and Sam Flynn (Garrett Hedlund) in the real world, and hopefully Cillian Murphy can return for a larger (potentially villainous) role as Dillinger Jr.

I have a feeling Sam and quorra are going to back into the grid and Dillinger is going to follow- I believe the Internet will somehow link grids and therefore allow new combat ideas and computer creature/bad guys/good guys. Jem will be back-she and her boss survived the explosion. He’ll probably be back. Don’t know if Jeff Bridges will be back-probably depends on him, but if so I see them finding an easy way around his integration with Clu. Yes Tron will of course be back and probably battle with Dillinger. Murphy will probably have a big role in this movie. All my guesses-however I do work as a psychic. Should be interesting. Oh yeah isomorphs can become pregnant, by humans.

i think tron is still alive because he’s light turned white after he fell in the water….

Two things that I hope for, 1) That Daft Punk is going to write the music for the movie and 2) That it will be called Tron 3.0 (just like the weak name of Tron: Legacy did not make any sense and killed the movie and the title should have been Tron 2.0 which make more sense.)

I hope daft punk does the music cause that would be kickass

I loved the movie and suprized it didn’t do as well as it should have in the box office. Can’t wait for the sequel. Hope they do a better trailer with more suspense so as to get the hype up cause if its any bit as good as the tron legacy then should do well. I liked the music on tron legacy too. Jeff bridges should hopefully have survived the integration. Im going to try to watch more on the cartoon. I saw just the first episode it wierd that in it clue is no longer red but orange. maybe was the integration but the cartoon is supposed to describe whats going on inside the grid inbetween movies.
