The first full length trailer for Ridley Scott’s The Counselor is out and it looks intense. The film tells the story of a clean lawyer (Michael Fassbender) who finds himself over his head when he gets involved with drug trafficking. The details of the plot have been kept under wraps for a while and the trailer does not seem to give much away either. Fassbender reunites with his Prometheus director and is surrounded by an all-star cast which includes Brad Pitt, Penelope Cruz, Javier Bardem, and Cameron Diaz.
However, all signs point to this being Cormac McCarthy’s movie. The Counselor is the first screenplay written by the Pulitzer prize winning author. It is being produced by Steve Schwartz and Nick Wechsler, who brought his novel The Road on the big screen. It is directed by Ridley Scott, who attempted to bring McCarthy’s Blood Meridian to production years ago. And the film’s villain is played by the man who won an Oscar for McCarthy’s No Country for Old Men (Javier Bardem). The project appears to have an A-team on all fronts– writing, directing, and acting. Hopefully the final result lives up to the hype.
