Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters was originally set to be released in March of this year, but Paramount decided to push the film back to January 2013 in the hope Jeremy Renner’s profile would be raised by The Avengers and The Bourne Legacy.
Whether that works out for them remains to be seen as the concept of ‘movie star’ died a few years ago (unless you’re Will Smith). Today the studio released the first trailer for the film, giving us our first look at Renner and Gemma Arterton as Hansel and Gretel.
The film follows the fairy tale siblings who have evolved into vengeful bounty hunters dedicated to exterminating witches following a traumatic incident involving a gingerbread house.
Tommy Wirkola (Dead Snow) is directing, and Anchorman director Adam McKay is producing. As well as Renner and Arterton the movie also stars Famke Janssen (Jean Grey from X-Men) as the leader of the witches.
