Pirates of the Caribbean: Dean Man’s Chest

This one starts out loud, with great drum beats, and instantly gives the audience what it wants: images of Will, Elizabeth, and (of course) Captain Jack Sparrow. It also doesn’t try to hide the new creatures in the film, Davie Jones and his fishy crew. They’re all there within the first 20 seconds. I also like that the trailer goes on for about a minute after you think it’s going to stop, and that last minute is one hell of a thrill ride. And, what’s great about movies like this one, is that there’s so much footage in the movie that nothing is really spoiled in the trailer! You walk away from it going, “Wow, that was really cool!” Yet you still don’t really know anything about it. But it’s given you that itch, and that’s all that matters.

Unfortunately, as seems the theme with some of these trailers, the music was made specifically for the trailer and isn’t available for download anywhere (save for the identifiable POTC themes, which will be on the soundtrack).

Music: Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest (Soundtrack from the Motion Picture) – Hans Zimmer (iTunes : Amazon)

  • Good stuff.
  • Well, these are all good, but you've missed a few amazing ones that at least made me go see their respective movies:

Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow:

the robots, the retro 50s feel with an alternate reality storyline, this trailer got lots of people anxious, but sadly, none of them went to go see the movie. I did though, it was good, better then the critics gave it anyway.

    V for Vendetta:

That trailer was phenomenal, it gave the basic plot, and promised twists, conspericies, and explosions. I loved the movie, and the trailer.

    Cloverfield:

Probably the one trailer that got the most people to go see the movie. This is in my opinion, a perfect trailer. NYC is under attack from something, and that's all you know. I have yet to see a trailer that was as perfectly suited for a movie that succeded to well.

I saw all three of the movies i listed, but I only saw 5 of the ones you listed, and mostly not because of the trailers.

I am curious though, which movies didn't live up to the trailers in your mind?
  • Ooh, V for Vendetta... Good one! That was a great movie, and had a great trailer as well!

Unfortunately, both Miss Potter and Elizabeth: The Golden Age didn't live up to the trailers for me. I was so EXCITED about Elizabeth, too, probably because I enjoyed the first one so much, that it probably could never live up to the version I had in mind. Still a good movie, but sometimes I like to watch the trailer and think of what might have been.
