Directing Man on Fire, Deja Vu, The Taking of Pelham 123, and Unstoppable in the last decade, Tony Scott has found a comfortable working relationship with Denzel Washington. But the two aren’t joined at the hip; you can see Denzel in Safe House in theaters right now, and Scott has a project lined up without his most famous collaborator called Lucky Strike. Who’s in talks to star? The answer may surprise you, so read on to find out.
According to Deadline, Vince Vaughn is in negotiations to join the movie, billed as “an action film in which a DEA agent teams with a drug runner to take down a drug cartel.” Sounds a bit like 2 Guns, the project once slated for Vaughn and Owen Wilson but now starring Mark Wahlberg alongside – guess who? – Denzel Washington. Vaughn’s fast-talking schtick seems perfectly matched with Scott’s kinetic style, so as long as the actor can pull off the physicality required, this seems like a no-brainer. Henry Bean wrote the script, but there’s no word on a start date yet since Scott is still juggling Lucky Strike with other projects: he’s got Top Gun 3D coming out this year, and has been working on Hell’s Angels and remakes of The Wild Bunch and The Warriors. Which of these projects would you like to see come to pass?
