Shia LaBeouf has been attached to star in a film version of John Grisham’s novel The Associate for almost two years. Now, The Los Angeles Times brings word that Tony Scott (Top Gun, Man on Fire) is close to taking the helm on this project.
Scott has a number of projects in the works, including Potzdamer Platz (starring Mickey Rourke, Javier Bardem, and Jason Statham), a remake of The Warriors, and a motorcycle movie about the Hell’s Angels titled, appropriately enough, Hell’s Angels. Apparently it’s in Scott’s hands which of these films gets made first; if I had any say in the matter, I’d like to see his take on The Warriors. (I know – I surprised myself with that choice.)
Grisham has seen many of his books converted to successful films, including The Firm, Runaway Jury, The Client, and more. The Associate will follow “a young lawyer blackmailed into taking a job at a high-profile firm to pass along secrets to a shady defense contractor.”
If you had to choose, which project would you like to see Tony Scott tackle next?
