We’ve finally gotten our first look at the long awaited conclusion to Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright’s Three Flavors Cornetto trilogy. While Shaun of the Dead parodied zombie films and Hot Fuzz poked fun at buddy cop movies, The World’s End will spoof science fiction films.
The trailer can be viewed via the video player below:
The World’s End will follow a group of friends trying to complete a legendary pub crawl that they failed to finish in years past. However, once they begin their quest they discover that things in their hometown aren’t as they left them. And by things aren’t the same I mean everybody there is an alien.
The film will feature multiple references to the first two films in the trilogy, including one we can see in the trailer (Pegg crashing into the fence.) The three films are not a true trilogy, as they don’t feature a connected story or characters, but a “spiritual trilogy,” The Three Flavors moniker references another famous trilogy, Krzysztof Kieslowski’s Three Color’s trilogy.
Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, Martin Freeman, Paddy Considine, and Eddie Marsan star as the group of friends going on the journey and this time around the flavor of ice cream will be mint, the green color a reference to the film’s sci-fi theme. The World’s End will be out on July 19th in the UK and August 23rd in the States.
