With Zack Synder now firmly seated in the directors chair it is time for Warner Bros, Christopher Nolan and Snyder himself to find their new Superman. According to Deadline the “studio expects to look at hundreds of young actors”, most of which will be aged between 28-32 and will “likely either be a discovery, or an actor from TV who isn’t yet a big star.”
The site doesn’t offer any names that are officially under consideration, but it mentions Armie Hammer (who would have played Batman in George Miller’s failed Justice League: Mortal) and Mad Man actor Jon Hamm could be potential candidates.
Warner Bros. is looking to begin production next summer as some of the Superman rights may be in jeopardy in 2013 due to a legal battle with the estates of Superman creators Siegel and Shuster. A December 2012 release is currently set, and The Dark Knight co-writer David Goyer is currently working on the script with Zack Snyder.
As hundreds of fairly unknown actors will be auditioning for the role of Superman it seems pretty pointless to start fan-casting, but who do you want to see suit up for the reboot? Should it be an unknown, or would you prefer a name?
