The Lone Ranger teaser trailer

lone ranger Image Today sees the release of the first teaser trailer for The Lone Ranger, a movie that reunites Pirates of the Caribbean director Gore Verbinski with producer Jerry Bruckheimer. The movie had budget problems during the early stages which caused the studio to halt production this time last year, but the team managed to cut $50 million and production on the western resumed.

Watch the trailer below:

Native American spirit warrior Tonto (Johnny Depp) recounts the untold tales that transformed John Reid (Armie Hammer), a man of the law, into a legend of justice—taking the audience on a runaway train of epic surprises and humorous friction as the two unlikely heroes must learn to work together and fight against greed and corruption.

Gore Verbinski is a good director and despite all the trouble we’ve heard so far, this doesn’t look bad at all. However with Cowboys and Aliens and John Carter under-performing over recent years The Lone Ranger will have to give anti-western/desert audiences a reason to buy a ticket. Maybe the studio is saving all the big set pieces for the next trailer.

Ruth Wilson, Tom Wilkinson, Barry Pepper, James Badge Dale and William Fichtner also star, and Disney has set the release date for July 3, 2013. I just hope Tim Burton doesn’t mind Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter appearing in a film together without his involvement.
