Following the success of The Hangover last year ($500 million worldwide, $155 million on DVD/Blu-ray) Zach Galifianakis, Bradley Cooper and Ed Helms all held out for sweeter deals and at one point it looked like the sequel wouldn’t go ahead. However, Warner Bros. paid them handsomely and The Hangover 2 cast and crew are currently busy filming. At Ontario International Airport in California, to be exact.
Director Todd Phillips, who also directed Due Date with Robert Downey Jr., recently confirmed speculation that the gang will be heading to Thailand for more morning after hilarity.
“It takes place in Bangkok and LA,” Phillips told Empire. “There’s gonna be some f**ked-up surprises.”
“The three guys are back,” Phillips said. “Mr. Chow’s back too.”
More carnage, more eccentric gangster weirdness from Ken Jeong and the promise of a tiger encounter in its natural habitat. Sounds good to our ears. Phillips, meanwhile, can spot a hacked-out sequel when he sees one and is promising that The Hangover 2 won’t follow in less-than-illustrious footsteps. “I’m not delusional,” he said. “I know what I’m up against. I saw Meet The Fockers. But we’re aiming high. It’s called The Hangover Part Two, you know.”
The Hangover 2 will be released next May and will actually have some competition this time round, as it will be released a week before Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.
No word yet on whether Carlos the baby will return.
