According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Warner Bros. and Christopher Nolan have decided to shoot The Dark Knight Rises in Pittsburgh. Cities elsewhere in the US and abroad were considered but Dawn Keezer, director of the Pittsburgh Film Office, said the production “really fell in love with the diversity of architecture and the gorgeous buildings that we still have in Downtown Pittsburgh and the surrounding”.
Filming in Pittsburgh is expected to last around four to six weeks. On the chosen location, Nolan said:
“Pittsburgh is a beautiful city. We have been able to find everything we were looking for here, and I am excited to spend the summer in Pittsburgh with our final installment of Batman.”
Nolan’s previous Batman movies used Chicago to represent Gotham, and they also shot in England, Iceland and Hong Kong. It is unknown why they aren’t returning to Chicago (tax incentives, perhaps?) but Gotham may end up looking a little different in The Dark Knight Rises.
The Dark Knight Rises is set for release on July 20th, 2012. Christian Bale, Michael Caine, Gary Oldman and Morgan Freeman will reprise their roles alongside new additions Tom Hardy (Bane), Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Anne Hathaway (Catwoman).
