Sony have announced that they’ll be making at least two more Spider-Man movies after The Amazing Spider-Man 2. On June 10, 2016 the studio will release The Amazing Spider-Man 3, and on May 4, 2018 we’ll see The Amazing Spider-Man 4 (not the official titles). The studio will probably want to complete the quadrilogy with Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man, but there could easily be another reboot somewhere between now and 2018.
Jeff Blake, Chairman, Worldwide Marketing and Distribution for Sony Pictures said, “Spider-Man is our most important, most successful, and most beloved franchise, so we’re thrilled that we are in a position to lock in these prime release dates over the next five years.”
Talk about planning ahead! Disney/Pixar recently set release dates for 3 movies in 2018, so I guess 2018 is being eyed as a big year for movies (for some reason). It just shows how important these tent-poles are for studios and their shareholders. As for fans, it’s good to see there’s a plan in place for these Spider-Man movies so they may fit together in terms of the stories and characters used.
Sony is currently shooting The Amazing Spider-Man 2 with Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, and director Marc Webb. No word if the key talent are signed for all these upcoming movies, but I imagine those conversations will be had over the next few years. Would Garfield commit himself to all four films?
