The Terminator Salvation Script Is Good Apparently

When Jonathan Nolan was confirmed as the lead writer on Terminator Salvation everyone took a huge sigh of relief. Jonathan was one of the writers behind The Dark Knight (which was rather good) and The Prestige (which was also rather good) so it didn’t look like we had anything to worry about.

Timothy Zahn, author of the upcoming Terminator Salvation prequel novel, recently spoke to this dude and he had some encouraging words to say about the script.

We ended up talking for at least a good couple of hours, mostly about all things Terminator related. Of course, he’s under an NDA regarding the new movie, and I would never have been so rude as to ask him for any details about the movie or the novel. The only thing I did want to know was simply how he thinks the movie is going to be. His response was very encouraging. The basic gist of what he said is that given the script that they’re working with they’d have to try very hard to turn it into a bad movie. He’s gotten script revisions as the movie has been in production, and said that all of the revisions have been improvements, and show that they really do care about the story. That’s worth more to me than any spoilers would be!

Although this is only one man’s opinion and he is working for them, it is good to hear positive things about the movie.

We can expect a new trailer with Quantum of Solace in the upcoming weeks.

It doesn't matter because McG is still directing.

Also your source for this is a guy writes terminator novels.
  • Most fans aren't terribly worried about the writing. It's the choice of McG as director that's in question.
  • The story is most important
can't wait to see the trailer!

Am I the only person who actually enjoyed Charlie's Angels?! OK, so it was s***, but it was still quite entertaining - "chewing gum for the eyes" as Father Ted (Irish comedy priest) would say.

And TS can't possibly be as bad as T3!!

    *** Spoiler Alert ***

Not... it wasn't as bad as T3... but oh boy... was the plot lacking some serious development.

This movie was action packed but it relied entirely on that and special effects. No character development, terrible music score, lame script, and unimaginative plot.

    1. The character development of John Connor consisted of him hating Marcus Wright for being a machine, to then learning he could trust some machines. I guess he didn't learn that already from T2 and T3. The character development of Marcus Wright had less of an arch. He went from being a misunderstood asocial character, to being a dead-misunderstood asocial hero.

    2. Lame music score. Just watch the title sequence. I don't need to elaborate any more than that.

    3. Lame script. Seriously... it went something like this:
    - Kate Brewster/Connor: "His heart is failing"
    - Marcus Wright: "Give him mine"

WTF? First, they are in a post apocalyptic environment where medicine and food are scarce. Second, Connor is in a field hospital, which are not meant for intrusive surgeries. Third, last time I checked, Kate Brewster was a veterinarian, not a surgeon. Fourth, how coincidental is it for Marcus Wright to be a possible donor match? Lastly, didn't the writers considered that killing Marcus right to save John Connor was somewhat unethical, at best?

I cannot think of a single character that grew from the beginning of the movie till the end. Instead, most characters are just the typical stereotypes sing simple scripted lines that move the characters from one chase scene to the next.

    4. Unimaginative plot. It borrowed from The Lord of the Rings: Two Towers, where two hobbits are kidnapped and need to be rescued. Also, Skynet even had a magical tower of its own, with gigantic monsters to protect it. Some sequences too seem too much like to Independence day. From the planes' dodge fights, to the signal that disrupts the machines. Granted, the Terminator: Salvation plot is a different variation of the same plots I mentioned before, but not an exact copy. Lastly, if the objective was to eliminate Kyle Reese and John Connor, why not eliminate them with one blow. I mean, we all have seen terminators punch through a man's chest with a single blow. How come this terminator could not do that? and why wasn't Kyle Reese Killed when he was detected?

Oh, yeah... I know the answer to my last question... because what has not been revealed, is that Skynet this time was designed by Dr. Evil... and it wants to kill the Connors by throwing them into a pool infested with laser sharks.
