According to Deadline director Jonathan Liebesman has found his Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The plan has always been to use performance capture technology (like James Cameron’s Avatar) so getting well-known actors on-board wasn’t needed. Instead, Paramount has hired four up and coming actors you may or may not have heard of.
- Alan Ritchson (The Hunger Games: Catching Fire) will play Raphael, the most impatient, aggressive and hot-headed of the turtles. He often wears a red bandana and wields twin sai.
- Jeremy Howard (Galaxy Quest) will star as Donatello, often portrayed as second-in-command and in previous adaptations he’s worn a purple bandana. His weapon of choice is the bo staff.
- Pete Ploszek (Parks and Recreation) will play Leonardo who wears a blue bandana and his signature weapons are two katana. Leonardo is the leader of the four turtles and the most disciplined.
- Noel Fisher (The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2) has been cast as Michelangelo, the most light-hearted and friendly of the turtles. His bandana is orange and his weapons are dual nunchaku, although he has been portrayed using other weapons in different TV shows and some of his action figures include a three section staff.
We already know that Megan Fox will star as April O’Neil in the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot thanks to producer Michael Bay revealing the news last month. We can expect to hear news of an actor hired to play Shredder, the villain, soon.
Originally set for a Christmas 2013 release, the movie will now open June 6, 2014.
