Paul W.S. Anderson’s next film, Pompeii has released a teaser trailer with a small glimpse of the destruction we can expect to see. The known sci-fi/horror director has taken quite an interesting turn in his career lately with this film and 2011’s Three Musketeers. Although he has another Resident Evil movie slated for 2014, I’m curious to see if he will continue making films in the action/period piece sub-genre.
Pompeii tells the story of the ancient Roman city that was destroyed by the volcanic eruption of Mount Vesius in 79 A.D. 16,000 people were killed in what is considered one of the largest natural disasters in history. The film will be shown through the eyes of a gladiator (Kit Harington) who has fallen in love with a noblewoman (Emily Browning) right before the mountain erupts.
The teaser showcases the iconic poses of the bodies found at Pompeii centuries after the disaster. Many of the casualties were caused by flash-heating which killed the civilians instantly and created casts out of the hardened ash they were covered in. Also– as expected with Paul W.S. Anderson– it appears there are plenty of explosions and fight scenes to go around.

Pompeii will be released nationwide on February 28th, 2014.
