Twitch has snagged an exclusive first look at the teaser trailer for Sharlto Copley’s directorial debut Spoon. Copley was looking towards a career behind the camera before he was cast as protagonist Wikus in District 9, but his first feature-length project as a director is nearing the end stages of completion (seemingly).
Spoon is apparently a “thriller with supernatural overtones about a man with a medical condition that causes him to black out during moments of extreme stress and leads him to make a remarkable discovery about himself.” It stars British actor Darren Boyd (TV shows Smack the Pony, Green Wing) and Rutger Hauer as the two main leads. The teaser is suitably creepy of course, and it’s hard not to get some Hannibal Lector vibes off of Hauer’s character.
But I’m excited for this purely for Copley’s involvement – he worked as a producer on District 9 and its preceding short film Alive in Joburg, and is co-directing Spoon with Simon Hansen, who also produced Joburg. The pair have both worked in special effects too, and are clearly incredibly talented. Spoon is also a thriller with supernatural elements, so yeah…count me in.
A link is provided in the trailer to the official Spoon website where you can do…well, not much at the moment. It’ll probably get more interesting later. So for now, head over to Twitch and watch the trailer here.
