A Polish poster for X-Files: I Want To Believe is online. Is it me or do Mulder and Scully look like SIMS?

…is the official title to the upcoming X-Files movie. “I Want to Believe” was the slogan on a poster Duchovny’s UFO-obsessed agent Fox Mulder had hanging in the cluttered basement office where he and Anderson’s Dana Scully worked.

“It’s a natural title,” writer Chris Carter said. “It’s a story that involves the difficulties in mediating faith and science. ‘I Want to Believe.’ It really does suggest Mulder’s struggle with his faith.”

Carter said he settled on “I Want to Believe” from the time he and co-writer Frank Spotnitz started on the screenplay. It took so long to go public with it because studio executives wanted to make sure it was a marketable title, he said.

What do you think of the title? It is a good choice or is it cheesy?

Three new images are online for the yet to be named X-Files 2 movie. The images show Scully looking at Mulder, Scully and FBI looking at a mysterious floor thing, and Mulder looking into the distance.

Exciting, right? Whatever, I don’t even care at this point. We’re getting another X-Files movie, what the hell else do you want? I’m excited just to see them together again.

Holy shit. Despite all the reports and casting news, I still doubted that X Files 2 was going to happen.

But the first set photo has appeared online. This isn’t just a conspiracy…the film is ACTUALLY filming.

Check out Spooky Mulder and Amanda Peet. I can’t wait for this movie.

Move over, Mulder and Scully. Your standard FBI issue sedan is about to get PIMPED out.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, rapper Xzibit has just joined the cast of The X Files 2. Along with Xzibit, Amanda Peet & Billy Connolly have also signed on for roles. Peet and Xzibit will play fellow FBI agents in the film, but Connolly’s role has yet to be announced.

I hope Special Agent Xzibit steals a UFO for a week, and returns it with six inch rims, a killer stereo system, and an X-Box 360 in the trunk.

The film is set to open July 25^th, 2008.

I can’t even remember how many times the FBI has shut down the X-Files division. Didn’t it happen every other season? Do they even HAVE an X-Files division anymore, after the cluster f*$% that was the final season?

Anyway, after years of saying “It’s going to happen,” it looks like David Duchovny is finally correct. X-Files 2 is a go.

Not only is it a go, but we have more concrete information than ever before.

First off, series creator Chris Carter will be directing this time out. Obviously, Duchovny is on board, and Gillian Anderson has just signed on as well. And according to Comingsoon.net, we also have a release date: July 25^th, 2008.

I don’t know about you, but that seems awfully soon, doesn’t it? Production is expected to begin December 10^th in the Canada, so it’s not a matter of them not being able to finish the film in time…it just seems really close.

The film itself is not expected to go into any of the X-Files mythology, which I think really convoluted the show itself in the last few seasons. Instead, it’ll be one of the old school ‘monster-of-the-week’ affairs.

For a show that killed off a lot of its supporting characters in the last season, and ended in such an odd fashion, I’m curious to see just how they will bring it back. I just hope that whatever Frank Spotnitz and Christ Carter wrote in the screenplay makes up for the mess they left us with.
