Fox’s viral campaign for this summer’s Prometheus seems to be in full swing right now and this awesome promo is the latest to come from that. David is an 8th generation Wayland type robot, powered by Verizon apparently and you can see the clip right after the break.

Now this is what I call great viral marketing, a clip that’s made to look like any commercial you see today on TV, only this is for a robot, one that you can only find in the film Prometheus unfortunately. I mean who doesn’t want a real David around the house? I know I do, my garden needs work and he would be the perfect candidate for that unethical job. Also, after Shame, I’m sure there are loads of women out there (and even guys) that would buy a Michael Fassbender the second he becomes available, probably for stuff that’s more NC-17 if you know what I mean.

Joke aside, Prometheus is a prequel to the 1979 original Alien, directed by the same Ridley Scott and starring Michael Fassbender, Noomi Rapace, Charlize Theron, Idris Elba, Guy Pearce, and Patrick Wilson among others.

Prometheus opens June 1st in the UK and June 8th in North America.

So would you buy a David/Michael Fassbender if this promo was real?

For the past few years, viral marketing has become increasingly popular with blockbusters and small-budget films alike, and it’s hard not to see why considering it gives an audience a fun and interactive way to get more out of the story, creating a unique experience.

For example, the film Cloverfield gave us both encrypted videos, fake news stories, and mysterious websites, allowing the viewer to piece together both the plot and origins of the monster that was otherwise not seen in the actual film, giving it a more realistic feeling.

We’ve even seen it used in The Dark Knight, as well as The Dark Knight Rises, using videos, websites, and fake news stories (see a pattern here?) rewarding those seeking more details early reveals of footage or even the first appearance of the villain.

Well keeping up with that trend is Sony, who has continued the viral marketing campaign for The Amazing Spider-Man, this time in the form as a newscast from the Daily Bugle.

So something new you should have caught on before even finishing the video is that instead of a newspaper, the Daily Bugle has now been updated into a TV Station and instead of J. Jonah Jameson as the heckler, we now have Captain Stacey. Sure we had a few hints to this, but the video confirms how different this new Spider-Man film is really going to be.

The video does a great job of setting up how important the public’s reaction to the image of Spider-Man is to the overall plot (a la The Dark Knight) and the new take on The Daily Bugle does a more effective job of this for a new generation rather than just a written news story and a few pictures would.

The video also gives a new website to explore for all that viral-y goodness, Webbedmenace.com. On it is a wanted poster of Spider-Man that harkens back to some of the original stories of the comic books from Steve Ditko and Stan Lee, which is definitely worth checking out all on its own.

If that wasn’t enough, you can also submit your own Spider-Man sighting in video or picture form. With the viral campaign going very strong, it’s good to see that The Amazing Spider-Man is continuing to explore new ideas while still staying faithful to the comics and not resorting to just another rehashing of a story already told.

Aziz Ansari is a funny dude I first discovered when he used to do a show called Crash Test at the UCB theater in New York. The guy had a “Shittiest Mix Tape Challenge” where he challenged his roommate to make the shittiest mix tape possible. The loser had to walk around New York with a boom box blasting the horribleness. Aziz lost and the video was hilarious.

Since then, Ansari has scored himself a part in NBC’s Parks & Recreation and a part in Judd Apatow’s Funny People, where he plays a comedian named Randy who performs by hopping around, spitting catch-phrases and using samples from a DJ.

Funny People has been virally promoting itself around the web (American readers can, and should, check out faux-sitcom Yo Teach! on Hulu), and Raaaaaaaandy made his web debut on LaughYourDickOff.com where you can see some of Randy’s stand up, play with a sound board and read about his jumping.

Funny Or Die has now uploaded the first part in a documentary about Randy in promotion of Funny People at the end of the month.

Movieboy1 directed me to a Youtube video that looks like some viral marketing for Dragonball Evolution.

This must be the worst viral marketing ever.

The YouTube channel CanYouKameHameHa asks you to record your best Kamehameha and upload it to their Youtube group.

I don’t know who this woman is but i’ve spent the past 10 minutes laughing at her, while feeling embarrassed for her at the same time.

Domino’s Pizza have launched “The Dark Knight Vault” where you can watch an extended trailer with new footage, along with a bunch of other stuff. Every time we get a new trailer I think that’s the final one, however Warner Bros just keep on giving, which is both bad and good depending if you want a Dark Knight overload or not.

The site is slow as hell at the moment, probably due to all of the traffic by footage hungry Batman fans, so if you have the patience click the image below!

The people behind The Dark Knight have done an amazing job piquing The Internet’s – i.e. everyone on the internet’s - interest in the movie.  From widgets and viral videos made specially for online viewers, to making-of featurettes and websites built specifically for characters in the film.  I’m not sure if all of this is necessary, considering the massive success of the first film and the added value of the movie being Heath Ledger’s last completed movie (sadly), but it can only help.

Latest in the line of specialty websites is a site for the Gotham City Pizzeria.  It looks like a simple pizza place, with a little information about the company and a menu of their food.  However, take a closer look!

Put your mouse over the “HA” in “GOTHAM” and see what happens.  Click on it for a surprise: a clip with Harvey Two-Face!

I’d guess this is going to be somewhere towards the end of the movie, which would be a nice set-up for movie three!
