Frank Marshall, who is currently working on The Last Airbender, spoke to ComingSoon.net about a few films that are currently in the pipeline. Marshall produced the entire Bourne trilogy and he gave a small update on the status of Bourne 4, which was announced last October.

“We’d like to shoot next year,” he told us. “It’s trying to get everybody’s schedules in the right place and getting the script right. We’ve done pretty well with these scripts that are pretty loosely put together, but I’d like the script to be really solid this time before we go forward. We’re spending a lot of time on this story.”

He was also asked about Jurassic Park 4, which has been on and off for years. In the past we have heard rumours of it revolving around the extinction and another about dinosaurs with guns attached to them, however it seems those ideas have been scrapped.

“We just have to see if they can come up with a story. We don’t have a story.”

I don’t think we will get to see Jurassic Park 4 for a while, if ever, which is a shame as we haven’t had a good dinosaur movie in years.

Lastly, he spoke about The NeverEnding Story which Warner Bros. announced they would be rebooting in February.

“We love the book and we’ve always thought there was an opportunity (because) there were a lot of elements in the book that weren’t in the movie. It’s another one where we’re still working on the rights and it’s a huge thing to get it. Once we get it, we’ll bring on a writer, but that’s kind of off in the distance. But it’s a great story.”

I had the chance to watch The NeverEnding Story around 2 months ago as it is always on TV during the Christmas period in the UK. I can remember wondering what it could look like if it were re-made today, given the special effects and developments we have had since 1984. While it is a classic, it is a bit slow compared to today’s standards, and if done right it could be rather epic.

Warner Bros. and a pair of top-tier production banners are in the early stages of a reboot of the 1980s children’s fantasy classic.

The Kennedy/Marshall Co. (“The Curious Case of Benjamin Button”) and Leonard DiCaprio’s shingle Appian Way are in discussions with Warners about reviving the 25-year-old franchise with a modern spin. The studio recently acquired rights to the property, clearing the way for a potential remake.

Born out of a German-language novel by Michael Ende, the film centers on a boy named Bastian Balthazar Bux who discovers a parallel world in a book titled “The NeverEnding Story.” As the boy, a loner, delves deeper into the book, he increasingly finds his life intertwined with the plot of the novel, in which a hero in the land of Fantasia must save the universe on behalf of an empress.

The new pic — which original producer Dieter Geissler also will produce and Sarah Schechter and Jesse Ehrman will oversee for Warners — will examine the more nuanced details of the book that were glossed over in the first pic.
