Another flop for CBS Films? Might be, but I’m sure it will at least make more then Extraordinary Measures (probably in its first weekend).

Finally Oceans comes from Buena Vista (Disney) and is sort of the sequel to Earth, the 2009 documentary that went on to gross $32 million in North America and $108 million worldwide. Ocean is showing in less theaters (1206 versus 1804 for Earth) and seems like a smaller profile release then that movie so I don’t see it making more then $4-$5 million over the weekend (it opened on the 22th, Earth Day so that will cut from the total weekend also, might finish with $6-$7, maybe $8 million over the 4 days).

I’m hoping Kick Ass will start to kick some ass at the box office but I’m not going to hold my breath for that, I expect a 50% drop, at least.

How to Train Your Dragon on the other hand won’t drop more then 10-20% and will probably finish first.

How to Train Your Dragon (DW) $17 million ($179M)

The Losers (WB) $14 million (NEW)

The Back-Up Plan (CBS) $12 million (NEW)

Date Night (Fox) $11 million ($64M)

Kick Ass (LGF) $10 million ($35M)

Please guys, please go see Kick Ass, otherwise you will almost never see this kind of independent movies done by fans for fans get picked by a studio and open in theaters.

Read similar posts to Incoming slow weekend at the box office at Filmonic

Chris Evans is “not a big comic book reader”

Movie News

Captain America: The First Avenger

Chris Evans

Joe Johnston

Marvel

The Losers

Fans of the Captain America comic books may want to avoid reading this, as it may cause offense. The actor who was recently cast as Steve Rogers, Chris Evans, isn’t that into comic books (gasp!). This shocking revelation was revealed this weekend at WonderCon in San Francisco while Evans was promoting The Losers (another comic book movie).

He said that he doesn’t really have a history and a love for comics and he didn’t grow up reading them. They are “fantastic for films”, however.

Here’s more of what he had to say, from Sci-Fi Wire:

“The beautiful thing about comic books, even movies based on novels, you have a blueprint,” Evans added. “You have a tangible thing to say, ‘Listen, this is the story we’re going to work.’ Especially in comic books. You have a color palate. You have visual home base to kind of root yourself in. So, as an actor, it’s nice knowing the people behind the visual elements of the film have this kind of blue print to work off of.”

So why Captain America? “I don’t know,” he stammered, as the gathering of reporters laughed. “I don’t know. It’s just, … it was, … I don’t know.” He chuckled.

“I think Marvel is doing a lot of good things right now,” he said. “And it’s a fun character. Even if it wasn’t a comic book. I think the story of Steve Rogers is great. He’s a great guy. Even if it was just a script about anybody, I would probably want to do it. So it wasn’t necessarily about the comic itself. It was about … ”

At this point, Evans’ Losers co-star Zoe Saldana chimed in: “It was about the tights.”

Evans laughed. “Any time I can get in blue tights … . He’s a great character. He’s a great character to play. He just happens to be a comic book character.”

I’ve only read one comic book in my life so I’m not going to comment on his lack of love for them, although you would have thought a guy who has starred in so many comic book movies would have had some interest in them. Bryan Singer told his X-Men cast back in 2000 not to bother too much with the comics and just focus on the movie at hand, and I’m pretty sure Robert Downey Jr. wasn’t all that clued up on Iron Man before taking the role, so it’s not that big of a deal.

Evans, like most actors, probably took the role for the money and because it’s a good career move, but he may get into the comics as he gets more involved with the character during filming. All that really matters is that the people behind the camera know who Captain America is. Director Joe Johnston seems to know the character pretty well, so fans shouldn’t be too worried with Evans’ lack of knowledge.

Read similar posts to Chris Evans is “not a big comic book reader” at Filmonic

Another poster for The Losers

Movie News

Chris Evans

Columbus Short

Idris Elba

Jeffrey Dean Morgan

The Losers

Zoe Saldana

I take it this poster was made before the recent casting announcement of Captain America. From both trailers it looks like the films have a similar plot (betrayed by Government, left for dead, revenge etc.) so there will probably be a bit of competeion between the two, however I think they can both co-exists alongside each other. I mean, nearly every romantic comedy released over the past five years has had the same basic plot structure, but that hasn’t stopped people flocking and throwing money at them.

You can check out the trailer for The Losers here, and the trailer for The A-Team here.

Read similar posts to The Losers will now go up against The A-Team at Filmonic

The Losers trailer

Movie Trailers

Chris Evans

Columbus Short

Holt McCallany

Idris Elba

Jeffrey Dean Morgan

Sylvain White

The Losers

Zoe Saldana

Warner Bros. has released the first trailer for The Losers online.
