Samuel L. Jackson talked briefly to BlackVoices.com about returning as Nick Fury in Iron Man 2.

Are we going to see more of Nick Fury in ‘Iron Man 2′?

Samuel L. Jackson: I saw Jon Favreau last night (at the Scream Awards), and he told me we were. I was standing next to George Lucas and he said to me, ‘Hey! I hope you are making your deal with them (Paramount)’ and I was like, ‘Really’ (Laughs)

Are you excited to be working with Don Cheadle?

SLJ: Yes. Don and I are good friends and I think it’s going to be an exciting difference. We’ll see what happens. It’s kind of amazing how (the switch from Terrence Howard to Don Cheadle) that happened.

Meanwhile MTV asked Marvel Studios President of Production Kevin Feige about the recent Terrence Howard/Don Cheadle recast, to which he replied:

“No comment”

He then went on to say:

That [‘Hollywood Reporter’ story] was not an announcement. That was, as it tends to happen in the business, is rumors and leaks and things like that. I do think there will be clarity soon.”

So nothing is official yet? This is getting stupid!

Earlier this week we heard that Don Cheadle would be replacing Terrence Howard in Iron Man 2, with the reason being Marvel and Howard couldn’t sort out an agreement over money. Well yesterday Howard did a radio interview with NPR and they obviously asked him about the recent developments with Iron Man 2.

“It was the surprise of a lifetime,” he said. “There was no explanation. [The contract] just…up and vanished. I read something in the trades implicating that it was about money or something, but apparently the contracts that we write and sign aren’t worth the paper that they’re printed on, sometimes. Promises aren’t kept, and good faith negotiations aren’t always held up.”

Apparently director Jon Favreau had problems with Marvel regarding money for the sequel, so I wouldn’t be surprised if money was the main reason behind this recast. When a movie makes $573 million worldwide it is not surprising Howard and the others want a bit of a pay rise, however it seems Marvel like money more than continuity.

Well I didn’t see this one coming. According to THR, Don Cheadle will be replacing Terrence Howard in Iron Man 2. Apparently Howard and Marvel couldn’t sort out an agreement over money, so they asked Don Cheadle to play Jim Rhodes instead.

Recasting characters in popular franchises is nothing now. It happened this summer in The Dark Knight, when Maggie Gyllenhaal took over the role of Rachel Dawes from Katie Holmes. It wasn’t a major distraction but it was noticeable, and I suspect the same will happen with Iron Man 2.

What sucks even more for Terrence Howard is that War Machine is likely to be introduced in the second film, and he got quite excited about that prospect, however Cheadle will now be the one donning the suit instead.

There were no complaints with their appearance in Iron Man, however it seems Terrence Howard and Robert Downey Jr. want their suits to be bulging in Iron Man 2.

“I’m going to work out like a demon because it’s that character,” the man who would be War Machine giddily told MTV News. “That’s sometimes what we need, that other motivation to make us get buff. So me and Robert, we made plans to really get some incredible trainers, train together, and get massive. Get massive enough [so we don’t] need to suit.”’

Iron Man 2 is expected to go down the “Demon in a Bottle” storyline, which follows Tony Stark’s descent into alcoholism. Would it work for Downey Jr. to be as strong as an oxe yet be slumped in a corner drinking? Does anyone know a alcoholic with an athletic physique?
