As 20th Century Fox are looking to reboot the franchise there is a chance his script won’t be made into a movie, however Straczynski posted a comment on Filmonic’s comments section (as well as emailing IGN) setting the story straight:

Guys…guys…GUYS…whoa, slow down, back the bus up a second.

When I was asked about the Silver Surfer script, I responded about the one I’d written around the time that FF2 was launched, and was designed to pick up where that one left off.

When FF2 didn’t do as well as hoped for, that script was set aside, but that has NOTHING to do with the Silver Surfer script that is NOW under development at Fox with other folks. As far as I know, that is proceeding apace. So the hysteria that’s gripped the nets about “ohmygod the Surfer movie is dead!” is not correct, as I was again referring to only that one specific script tied into FF2, NOT what’s being done now.

J. Michael Straczynski

So the Silver Surfer movie is still being developed at 20th Century Fox, just with a different script and direction.

Read similar posts to Silver Surfer movie still in development at Filmonic

Silver Surfer movie not happening anytime soon

Movie News

Fantastic Four

Silver Surfer

A few years ago before Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer was unleashed upon the world 20th Century Fox were interested in making a Silver Surfer spin-off (Fox love spin-offs), and they hired J. Michael Straczynski to write a script. However after the second FF movie underperformed Fox decided against a third film, and recently we heard that they were rebooting the franchise. So where does that leave the Silver Surfer?

From Collider:

Q: Is your Silver Surfer draft dead?

JMS: What happened was when FF2 didn’t do as well as they hoped it would do, it caused them to call into question a Silver Surfer movie. The script that I wrote picked up right where FF2 left off. So if they do a Silver Surfer film down the road, it’ll have to be its own separate things.

Q: Fans thought the tone wasn’t right. Was yours geared at children?

JMS: It was definitely adult fare. I wanted to tell the origin of the Surfer and get into that whole thing.

Michael Green, who co-wrote Green Lantern, is currently writing the script for the Fantastic Four reboot, so it’ll be a few years before we heard back to the FF universe.

Read similar posts to Silver Surfer movie not happening anytime soon at Filmonic

Alex Proyas Not Directing Silver Surfer Movie

Movie News

Alex Proyas

Silver Surfer

A while back there were rumours that I,Robot director Alex Proyas would be directing a Silver Surfer movie. I didn’t go to see the movies when they were released and I don’t own any of the DVD’s. I always thought it would be the X-Men for kids and everything seemed to light for me, so I am not really affected by the news that Fantastic Four 3 may not happen.

Jessica Alba has expressed interest in returning, but didnt know when or if things would get started. Now Chris Evans, who played health and safety hazard, The Human Torch, spoke to MTV about why it may not happen.

“I’m pretty sure we won’t do [another] one,” insisted “Fantastic Four” star Chris Evans, who excelled in two films as the Human Torch. “I’m assuming that one is a closed book.”

“After the first one was released we got wind of potential titles and plots [almost immediately], and I’ve heard nothing from anyone at Fox [yet],” he grumbled. “We had all planned on doing [another] one but if there were going to be a third I think a week after the second one was released we would have heard.”

“It takes up a lot of time. It’s a big commitment,” he said. “I’m happy with walking away.” Still, Evans confessed that he does want to leave the door a little ajar, citing Marvel’s recent success with character cross-pollination. If “Spider-Man” or “Hulk” came to him with a cameo, he’s be the first on board. “Absolutely,” he enthused. “If Johnny Storm wanted to make a pop in appearance in one of those movies that would be a treat.”

If we were told after X-Men 2 that there may not be a third movie, people would be up in arms. If we heard after Spiderman 2 that there may not be another film, there would be riots on the streets. However, with this news I am sure that not that many people will be affected. Many of the hardcore fans think that Fox screwed the films up, especially in the villain department.

This leads to speculation that Fox will move forward with a Silver Surfer spin-off. A script is in development and Laurence Fishbourne has expressed interest in returning as the surfers voice.

What are your thoughts? Would you like a Fantastic Four 3, or would you prefer a Silver Surfer movie instead?

Read similar posts to Fantastic Four 3 Not Happening? at Filmonic
