The ‘will he, won’t he’ situation regarding whether Arnold Schwarzenegger will make an appearance in Terminator Salvation has been going on for a while now, and McG recently gave a rather interesting hint as to the answer to that question.

“The T800s as we know them look like Arnold [Schwarzenegger]. The T800 plays a big role in this movie.. I can’t quite tell you how we express that, but I will tell you the following: I think when you make a Terminator movie the responsibility of our team…is to push special effects forward. So what we’re trying to do is create visual effects and write code that’s never been written before to address this very question. It is not clear if we will be successful or not, so we’re working very diligently on going up to ILM in Sn Francisco because soon to address this very nature because… let me just hint at this: I don’t want today’s Arnold Schwarzenegger.”

I take this to mean they will use hi-tech movie wizardry to digitally insert a younger version of Arnies head onto a Terminator or human. Last year Austrian bodybuilder Roland Kickinger was hired for the movie and gave some hints as to what role he will be playing. Arnies younger face + Roland Kickinger’s body = ???

People have been wondering for a while whether Arnold Schwarzenegger would be having anything to do with Terminator Salvation. In May he said that he hasn’t spoke to anyone about it and he would probably only do it if they film in California. However, they have been filming in New Mexico so that may be out of the question.

Now Clinton News-Record brings word that Schwarzenegger-inspired bodybuilder Roland Kickinger will assume the role that Schwarzenegger would have otherwise filled.

This month, however, Kickinger begins filming what is likely the role of his life to date, as his portion of Terminator Salvation begins to take shape.

“There’s a very strong scene in the film where John Connor for the first time meets the Terminator, and he doesn’t know if he’s a good guy or a bad guy,” said Kickinger.

“It’s Arnold’s character in the first Terminator. That’s basically my role, but 20 years before, so it establishes how the Terminator [came] about.”

Arnold and Roland actually trained together at one point, and Kickinger even played Arnold in a A&E biopic. They are both also from Austria and if you take the world ‘Arnold’ and rearrange it you get ‘Roland’. It is meant to happen!
