Just Jared have posted the first photos of Robert Downey Jr. on the set of Sherlock Holmes. They were busy filming in central London today so it’s not surprising these images were snapped up. It’s fair to say Downey’s clothing looks nothing like what the typical Sherlock Holmes would be wearing. He looks more like Willy Wonka, however I’m sure Guy Ritchie and Downey Jr. have a vision and they will pull it off.

A press conference for Sherlock Holmes was held in London recently and cast members Robert Downey Jr., Rachel McAdams and Mark Strong were in attendance, along with director Guy Ritchie. They talked a little about their characters, and Downey Jr. revealed that at first Ritchie thought he was too old to play the lead part. That was until Iron Man came out this summer and Downey Jr. became a bit more ‘A-List’.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Rachel McAdams will be joining Robert Downey Jr and Jude Law on screen in Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes. McAdams will play Holmes’ love interest, Irene Adler, and word on the street is that the character would be back for a second film, should the first one make a gazillion.

The movie will begin shooting next month, and the concept sees Holmes as more adventurous and less stuffy than previous screen incarnations.

While on the rounds for Tropic Thunder, Iron Man actor Robert Downey Jr. revealed to Moviehole that he isn’t too keen on The Dark Knight, or DC Comics for that matter.

“My whole thing is that that I saw ‘The Dark Knight’. I feel like I’m dumb because I feel like I don’t get how many things that are so smart. It’s like a Ferrari engine of storytelling and script writing and I’m like, ‘That’s not my idea of what I want to see in a movie.’ I loved ‘The Prestige’ but didn’t understand ‘The Dark Knight’. Didn’t get it, still can’t tell you what happened in the movie, what happened to the character and in the end they need him to be a bad guy. I’m like, ‘I get it. This is so high brow and so f–king smart, I clearly need a college education to understand this movie.’ You know what? F-ck DC comics. That’s all I have to say and that’s where I’m really coming from.”

Ouch.

I wonder if there has been some history between him and DC Comics? Could Downey be annoyed that The Dark Knight overtook Iron Man at the box office, making it the biggest superhero movie of the summer?

At least he speaks his mind and doesn’t spew out crap like most actors.

There were no complaints with their appearance in Iron Man, however it seems Terrence Howard and Robert Downey Jr. want their suits to be bulging in Iron Man 2.

“I’m going to work out like a demon because it’s that character,” the man who would be War Machine giddily told MTV News. “That’s sometimes what we need, that other motivation to make us get buff. So me and Robert, we made plans to really get some incredible trainers, train together, and get massive. Get massive enough [so we don’t] need to suit.”’

Iron Man 2 is expected to go down the “Demon in a Bottle” storyline, which follows Tony Stark’s descent into alcoholism. Would it work for Downey Jr. to be as strong as an oxe yet be slumped in a corner drinking? Does anyone know a alcoholic with an athletic physique?

Last week we heard that Sasha Baron Cohen had landed the role of Sherlock Holmes in a comedy alongside Will Ferrell. Now Variety say that Robert Downey Jr. has just been cast as Sherlock Holmes, in a drama which will be directed by Guy Ritchie. We don’t see Sherlock Holmes on screen for years and then two come at once!

The film will begin filming in October and it seems Columbia Pictures are trying to get it out before Cohen and Ferrell’s version, which is a smart move.

Variety say:

Downey emerged as an action star with “Iron Man” and “Sherlock Holmes” also will take advantage of his physical skills as the character displays brawn as well as brains.

While Downey Jr. is busy with other films, he will still return for Iron Man 2 which will be directed by Iron Man director Jon Favreau.

There are 25 people (or, groups of people, depending on how you look at it!) set to receive their star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame next year.  Each year, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce’s Walk of Fame Committee chose the recipients, who are then ratified by the board of directors.

The new recipients are:

Hugh Jackman, Ben Kingsley, The Village People and Tinkerbell, along with Felicity Huffman, William H. Macy, Cameron Diaz, Robert Downey Jr., Tim Burton, Leslie Caron, Charles Durning, Ralph Fiennes, William Petersen, Kyra Sedgwick, John Stamos, Mark Burnett, Chuck Lorre, Kenny “Baby Face” Edmonds, Dave Koz, The Miracles, Doug Morris, Rush, Shakira, KFI radio personality Bill Handel and KCRW host Harry Shearer, who also provides voices for characters on “The Simpsons.”

Terrence Howard revealed to Military.com that Iron Man 2 is scheduled to begin filming in March 2009. This seems a good idea as Marvel have already claimed a release date of April 30, 2010. This gives them just over a year to get it all complete.

Jon Favreau is expected to direct again, with Robert Downey Jr. and Gwyneth Paltrow returning as well. However, if you want to see a bit more of Tony Stark then go and see his cameo in The Incredible Hulk.

A new TV spot has appeared online which includes the cameo of Robert Downey Jr as Tony Stark! The cameo has been rumoured for a while and we can now see it with our very own eyes. (It’s not the image above, I just thought it looked cool)

Did anyone watch the final of American Idol last night? I know I didn’t. However, I did hear that Ben Stiller, Jack Black and Robert Downey Jr. did some promotional thing for Tropic Thunder. The trio were backing singers/dancers for Gladys Knight singing “Midnight Train to Georgia”.
