With Jon M. Chu (Justin Bieber: Never Say Never) recently signing on to direct G.I Joe 2 it was only a matter of time before the cast got the call regarding their involvement. Most, if not all, were under contract to appear in more films, but it looks like Paramount will only be needing a few of them.

(Hint – The two characters which sell the most toys, and the lead guy).

Rachel Nichols, who played Shana Scarlett’ O’Hara in the first film, sent out a tweet informing everyone which characters will be returning.

So that’s Lee Byung-hun (Storm Shadow), Ray Park (Snake Eyes) and Channing Tatum (Captain Duke Hauser), and we say farewell to Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Sienna Miller, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Marlon Wayans, Dennis Quaid and Rachel Nichols. Producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura said last year that while all the cast were great, “it’s hard to manage as many characters as we tried” and that “it would make life a little easier to have a few less”, so we were expecting a few casualties.

Zombieland writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick who wrote the script will have no doubt included new characters, so we should be hearing about new casting additions soon.

Latino Review got a scoop last week that said Stephen Lang, the guy who casually drank coffee while destroying Hometree, had joined the cast of Conan. They said he would play the main villian, Khalar Singh, who is described as “commanding in size and manner, a warlord and formidable warrior, brilliant, cruel, weathered and tanned by the many campaigns he has waged and won. He is driven in his quest to find the Queen of Acheron and has been building an empire to do so.”

In a recent interview with MTV Lang confirmed he had been cast in Conan, and spoke briefly about the cutting off Mickey Rourke’s genitals.

“I’ve accepted the role of Khalar Singh,” he said. “I have no idea how I’m going to do it. First I’m going to find out how I’m going to sound. I’m going to get back on a Mongolian pony and ride like the wind. I’m going to flash my scimitar. I’m going to cut the nuts off Conan and his father.”

In other Conan news Latino Review also got word that Rachel Nichols (G.I Joe) will be playing the female love interest in the film. Her character is called Tamara and she is a “master of martial arts” and “has been trained to be the Queen’s servant, bodyguard and best friend”. She teams up with Conan to track down Khalar Singh after he captures the Queen of Acheron.

Conan begins filming this month in Bulgaria under the direction of Marcus Nispel (Pathfinder) and will be released by Lionsgate sometime in 2011.

It is inevitable in movies that if you have two good looking females on opposing sides, they have to have a good old cat fight at some point. G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra is keeping with tradition and we will be getting a Sienna Miller vs. Rachel Nichols “violent girl-fight”. Oh, and they’ll be wearing them leather suit while going at it.

Sienna said her favorite scene, however, was decidedly low-tech, depicting her evil Cobra assassin pulling hair with Joe agent “Scarlett” O’Hara. “There’s a really, really good girl fight between Rachel Nichols and myself,” she explained. “It’s like a proper, violent girl-fight scene. And we both worked so hard for the choreography and the training of it. … We both got hurt. I’m clumsy, so I slipped on a rubber bullet at one point and sprained my wrist quite badly. She ran into a flame and got burned.”

I hope we get a glimpse of this in the next trailer, whenever that will be.
