Prince Of Persia Is A Cross Between Pirates of the Caribbean And Gladiator

…According to screenwriter Jordon Mechner, who spoke to MTV about what we can expect from the upcoming Prince of Persia movie staring Jake Gyllenhaal, Gemma Arterton, Sir Ben Kingsley and Alfred Molina.

“Prince of Persia” isn’t just going to be like “Pirates” in terms of scope and tone, the newest Disney/Bruckheimer tag-team is actually going to “do for Arabian Nights movies what ‘Pirates’ did for pirate movies,”

“Tonally, I’d say it’s basically ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ with maybe a half-step towards ‘Gladiator.’”

“There’ll certainly be a lot of stunts, a lot of special effects. I mean it’s Jerry Bruckheimer!” Mechner insisted. “They’re shooting in the deserts of Morocco. The scope of this is going to be massive. It’s really spectacular.”

“Well the movie’s packed with action, so there’ll be swords and horses and all the things that wouldn’t be ‘Prince of Persia’ without. But because it’s a movie, it’s about the characters and character relationships. There’s no fighting for fighting’s sake. In a game, you have a lot of fighting because you’re doing it and it’s fun,” he said. “But in a movie, fighting’s a part of the story but it’s not a movie about swordfighting.”

Unfortunately we have a long time to wait for this as it won’t be released until May 2010!

Coolness: Fan Made Prince Of Persia Poster

There is a chance we may be getting the real deal in the upcoming months, however below is a fan made poster for Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, and was made by someone on the SHH forums. Gemma Arterton, Jake Gyllenhaal, Ben Kingsley and crew are currently filming in exotic places around the world and i’m sure they would be impressed if they saw it.

Gemma Arterton Talks Bond And Persia

This time last year Gemma Arterton was an unknown actress who had just finished drama school. One year on and she has a role in Guy Ritchie’s RocknRolla, will be a Bond girl in Quantum of Solace and is currently filming alongside Jake Gyllenhaal as ‘lead female’ in Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. Not a bad year in my opinion.

Gemma recently spoke to MyParkMag about starring in films dominated by males such as RocknRolla and Prince of Persia.

“I came on set and I, literally, was the totty. I had tight jeans on and a tight top with a push-up bra. Everybody was like, ‘A girl?!’ and talking to me at boob height. I thought, ‘I’ll let you off, as you haven’t had any boobs to stare at for a while.’

“Sometimes it’s nice to be around blokes though, because I don’t fuss too much about hair and make-up and neither do they? It’s quite tiring when you’ve got loads of girls ‘Oh, I don’t want that in my hair.’ ”

She added: “On ‘Bond’ it was fine. Although I didn’t get any time with Olga there were plenty of girls in the crew. In my next project, ‘Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time’ I’m the only girl in the whole film. It’s a boy’s world, but I’m quite cool with that.”

Quantum of Solace is released on October 31st, and Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time will be out in 2010.

Prince Of Persia Morocco Set Pics

Korben.info have posted a bunch of photos of the Prince of Persia sets currently being constructed in Morocco. The site is in a non-english language so we don’t know any details, although it is rather cool to see these big sets being used. Click the image below to see the rest!

Prince of Persia is being produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and stars Jake Gyllenhaal, Gemma Arterton, Ben Kingsley and Alfred Molina. The shooting in Morocco started at the beginning of July and the movie is expected to be released on May 28, 2010.

Here’s Our First Look At Jake Gyllenhaal As The Prince of Persia

Despite the release date being pushed back to 2010, filming for Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time is still happening and Justjared got our first look at Jake Gyllenhall as the Prince of Persia, which you can see below.

If you are into Hollywood gossip and relationships then you may notice that the hand he is holding belongs to Reese Witherspoon, and more images can be seen by clicking here.

Prince of Persia Pushed Back To May 2010

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time has been pushed back from June 19th 2009 to May 28th 2010. This is to avoid competition from Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen which would have been released a week after. Now it will go up against Shrek Goes Fourth and Thor, which will be released a week before and a week after Persia.

The cast of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time includes Jake Gyllenhaal, Gemma Arterton, Ben Kingsley and Alfred Molina.

Ben Kingsley Talks Price Of Persia

Sir Ben Kingsley recently spoke to Empire about a number of his upcoming movies, one of which is the game-to-movie adaptation of the Prince of Persia: The Sands Of Time.

“”We’re bringing to it all the scrutiny that a great myth would deserve,” he says. “It’s quite wonderful being around the table discussing the video game – which I’m aware of but don’t know anything about.

“It’s really quite beautiful how it’s building up with all our actors, with the writers sitting there, with the director sitting there, it’s really holding up very well. Most of my stuff is with Jake Gyllenhaal, who plays the Prince (Dastan), and I’m a father figure who lets him down very, very badly in the film. I’m the villain actually. It’s interesting because his own father dies early in the film and I take over and I’m completely manipulative.”

Prince of Persia: The Sands Of Time will be released June 2009 in the US and August 2009 in the UK, a whole two months later. I don’t get it.

Jake Gyllenhaal Riding A Horse

Jake Gyllenhaal was spotted riding a white horse and wielding a sword in England today. It appears he is training for his lead role in Price of Persia: The Sands of Time which will begin filming soon. Jake seems to be taking the role seriously with the training and it looks like his hair is getting longer too.

Note to Jake Gyllenhaal: Go easy on the horse. Being ridden that hard can hurt, I mean you should know. You did Brokeback Mountain.

Alfred Molina And Ben Kingsley Join The Prince of Persia!

British actors Alfred Molina And Ben Kingsley will join fellow British actress Gemma Arterton and non British actor Jake Gyllenhaal in The Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. There was absolutely no need for me to point out their nationality whatsoever but I got a little patriotic for a moment there. Alfred Molina is best known for playing Doc Ock in Spider-Man 2, and will play Sheik Amar, who becomes a mentor to the prince.

Ben Kingsley is best known for having a bald head, along with gaining my respect by staring in good movies such as Schindler’s List and Lucky Number Slevin. However, he grabbed my respect and shoved it up a cow by staring in Thunderbirds, Bloodrayne, The Last Legion, A Sound of Thunder and The Love Guru. It seems for every good movie Ben Kingsley does there are 5 crappy ones on the way. Hopefully The Prince of Persia will be one people actually want to see, and from Latino Reviews script review it seems they will. They gave it an A-

Trivia: Jake Gyllenhaal could have been battling Molina onscreen in Spider-Man 2 if Tobey Maguire’s back was still bad.

Jake Gyllenhaal And Gemma Arterton Cast In Prince of Persia!

The Hollywood Reporter have just confirmed Latino Reviews scoop that Jake Gyllenhaal will play the lead role in Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. They also report that upcoming Bond girl and full time eye candy Gemma Arterton has been rewarded the lead female role.

Gyllenhaal will play the Prince of Persia himself, Prince Dastan, who joins forces with feisty and exotic princess Tamina, played by Arterton. Together they have to prevent a villainous nobleman from possessing the Sands of Time, a gift from the gods that can reverse time and allow its possessor to rule the world.

Gyllenhaal doesn’t look identical to Prince Dastan, but I think he will be great in the role. If Disney are going to put $170+ million behind a film, with hope of a trilogy, you need a name in there. Plus Gyllenhaal hasn’t had a franchise yet, so now is his time.

Gemma Arterton’s career has sky-rocketed over the past few months. This time last year nobody knew who she was, and to date she has only completed two films, with a couple more on the way, one of which is Quantum of Solace. Landing the role of a Bond girl no doubt caused Jerry Bruckheimer to sit up and take notice, and he has now got the latest ‘hot talent’ in his next big franchise after Pirates of the Caribbean.

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time will being production in July!
