Last years winner was The Golden Compass

As well as announcing Hugh Jackman as the new host for next February’s Oscars, the Academy have revealed the 15 movies in the running for the 2008 visual effects Oscar.

Here is the list in alphabetical order:
Australia
The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian
Cloverfield
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
The Dark Knight
The Day the Earth Stood Still
Hancock
Hellboy II: The Golden Army
The Incredible Hulk
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
Iron Man
Journey to the Center of the Earth
The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor
Quantum of Solace
The Spiderwick Chronicles

This award is probably the one people care about the most, seeing as though this category contains movies people actually see.

In early January the list will be narrowed down to 7, then on January 15th members of the visual effects branch will watch excerpts from the movies, and the list will be narrowed down to 3.

The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian was released earlier this year and made a nice profit. However the only problem was it made $300 million less than The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. That’s not how things are supposed to work! Sequels usually make more than the first film, so it’s not surprising that Walden Media have taken their time green lighting the third film, The Voyage of the Dawn Treader.

In a statement announcing some changes at the top, Walden Media revealed that work on the next film will begin soon:

Cary Granat, Co-CEO and co-founder of Walden Media, will transition from his Walden position to a consultant for the company effective December 1. Granat will be Walden’s creative consultant on the third installment in “The Chronicles of Narnia” franchise – “Voyage of the Dawn Treader”- which the company hopes to greenlight soon.

In The Voyage of the Dawn Treader Lucy and Edmund Pevensie return to Narnia with their cousin Eustace where they meet up with Prince Caspian for a trip across the sea aboard the royal ship The Dawn Treader. Along the way they encounter dragons, dwarves, merfolk, and a band of lost warriors before reaching the edge of the world.

I might be in the minority here, but I’m one of those people who likes the behind-the-scenes stuff for movies just as much (if not MORE, sometimes) as I like movies themselves.

One of the best directors out there, Andrew Adamson, has introduced us to both Shrek and The Chronicles of Narnia. Below, you’ll find an interesting interview with the man himself and Narnia producer Mark Johnson, hosted by New Zealand radio personality Rob Holding, where they talk about filming, the challenges of adapting the book for the screen, and religion!

IESB got a new image of the Telmarine Army from upcoming The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian. The second film in the franchise is looking a lot darker than the previous instalment, which is not a bad thing at all.

Hoy Cinema have got their hands on some rather cool images for Iron Man, Prince Caspian and Quantum of Solace. The Iron Man shots look as though they were taken from a magazine, whereas the Caspian and Bond images are mainly behind the scenes shots, with a few concept arts thrown in for good measure.

The Super Bowl TV spots have appeared online for Wanted and The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian. As usual they contain fast paced, action filled fun, with every second costing lots of $$$. I will definitely be going to see these when then come out. We have Angelina Jolie going all Matrix on us, with that lucky bastard James McAvoy. In his last few movies he had stared alongside Angelina Jolie, Keira Knightly, Kerry Washington, Anne Hathaway, Christina Ricci and Reese Witherspoon. Which is not bad considering he was in the first Narnia movie as a faun.

The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian has a new poster, which is much better than the first one. It looks similar to the Lord Of The Rings posters, which is not a bad thing. The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe earned a gigantic $744 million worldwide, making Caspian a top priority.

I quite like this poster. You have the wise lion taking up a good amount of the thing. The handsome prince, the ‘ready for war’ children, the souring eagles, a water man (you can tell I havent read any of the books) and if you happen to be a small child looking at this poster on the wall, the main thing you will see is a sword fighting rodent. Small children like things like that, so will probably annoy their parents into going to see it. These marketing people think of everything don’t they?
