In the film Andy is now a young adult who is heading off to college, which means his toys are sent to storage, apart from Woody who he wants to keep. However, Buzz and the gang are accidentally thrown away and end up at local day-care center where they are abused by the youngsters. It’s left to Woody to save them and help them escape.

Toy Story 3 will be released next June in the US, and July in the UK.

Latino Review reports from a “very credible” super-secret source that production on Monsters, Inc. 2 has begun. Aside from a tentative release date at some point between 2012 and 2013, nothing else is known about the project – there’s no word on the capacity in which Pete Docter would return, if at all (I wonder if his success with Up would make this more or less likely? Would he want to move onto different projects?).

The current Pixar line-up then, is as follows:

2010: Toy Story 3

2011: Cars 2 (June) / The Bear and the Bow (December)

2012: Newt

I’d place my bets on a 2013 release for the Monsters, Inc. sequel then, unless they somehow manage to ramp up production to 2 films a year. Personally I’m disappointed with the number of sequels in Pixar’s pipeline, as I’d rather they got to work on original projects – most of their films (Monsters, Inc. included) stand well on their own, and don’t need to be milked. The only Pixar sequel I actually want to see is The Incredibles 2 – and that doesn’t seem to be anywhere on the horizon. I hope the wonderful studio isn’t cashing in / “selling out”…I guess we’ll find out later this year with Toy Story 3.

Laika Entertainment, the animation studio responsible for last year’s brilliant Coraline, are to develop Little White Lie, from writers Chris McCoy and Jan Pinkava.

Chris McCoy does not yet have any filmic credits to his name, although he reportedly has two comedies set up at DreamWorks. Jan Pinkava on the other hand, is a Pixar veteran – he has worked as an artist and animator on Toy Story 2 and A Bug’s Life, co-directed Ratatouille, and he also wrote and directed the incredibly clever short Geri’s Game. His new feature Little White Lie will apparently draw from a childhood experience, although essentially nothing else is known about it.

Coraline was one of my favourite films of last year, due in part to its absolutely beautiful visuals and attention to detail. I’m excited to see anything more from Laika, particularly if it’s from anyone at Pixar; Geri’s Game is a very witty, funny short film and probably the best that Pixar has produced thus far. The combination of that humor, Pinkava’s experience with fellow geniuses at Pixar, and Laika’s fantastic animation, should turn out great.

The Hollywood Reporter gave the first report, and they also have a couple of sentences about two other features in production at Laika:

Laika has an adaptation of Alan Snow’s “Here Be Monsters!” in development along with the original feature “Paranorman,” about a 13-year-old protecting his small town from a zombie attack.

Looking forward to this one. And those two.

Could an animated Ant Man move forward now that Pixar and Marvel both suckle on the same teet? Edgar Wright gave his answer to CHUD:

“I just spoke to Kevin Feige for the first time since I wrapped and we are meeting this week to discuss the next phase. It’s been something that I have worked on for over five years on and off. There’s even a treatment I wrote that dates even further back than that.

It’s true that the character is not considered one of the Marvel brand leaders and that is precisely what excites me about it. I want to make a film inside the Marvel Universe that is something a little different; a genre film within the superhero genre so to speak.

The news that Pixar is involved is not wholly accurate and a little premature to comment on. I love Pixar’s work more than anyone and indeed would love to collaborate with them. I’m not sure though that they would want to do a ’shrinking’ film as a Pixar animation – since Toy Story and A Bug’s Life already cover this territory to some extent. Am guessing that someone just speculated on the ‘bug’ angle and tried to put two and two together.

My spin on Ant Man is very different than a straight superhero origin – and very much live action. At some point in this century, I intend to stop talking about it and make the damn thing.”

Pixar are great, Edgar Wright is a cool director and Ant Man is…well I don’t really know, I’m not really familiar with the character. But everyone involved seems cool and great so whether they decide to go down the Pixar route or continue down the live-action road I’m sure the movie will be interesting. Honey, I Shrunk the Kids has been hogging the shrinking genre for too long and it’s time it got a modern update.

I thought I’d never see the day that a Pixar family animation would cause controversy, however it seems today is that day.

WALL-E has garnered rave reviews for its satire on consumer culture, in which future humans are depicted as a group of obese gluttons who never leave their padded floating arm chairs.

But one group is not amused – the swelling ranks of fat pride groups, who believe the film propagates anti-obesity hysteria comparable with the quest for the perfect body by the eugenics movement in Nazi Germany.

The anti WALL-E crusade began on the internet. Rachel Richardson of the Coalition of Fat Rights Activists (Cofra), used her blog, “The F-Word”, to object that the film “singles out and targets obese people as the primary cause of mankind’s demise.”

Here’s a three and a half minute clip from WALL-E, featuring an extended look at one of the scenes shown in the trailers.

Some have said that this might be a case of “cute overload,” but I don’t think that’s true… Pixar has a habit of being cute, and this only adds to that.
Check it out!
