Anyone care for a bit of violence, blood and profanity? If so cast your eyes down to the latest red band trailer for Kick-Ass.

Lionsgate has been doing quite well with the marketing for Matthew Vaughn’s Kick-Ass recently. The film is politically incorrect and that has been put across brilliantly with the restricted trailers that have been making their way online. It’s a shame Lionsgate can’t put these trailers in front of the masses. I’m sure everyone would be pre-ordering tickets if they saw a 12 year old girl informing a group of thugs that they are all Emily Blunts, before chopping off their legs.

Lionsgate has unleashed a new international red band trailer for Matthew Vaughn’s Kick-Ass, and it’s probably the best Kick-Ass trailer that’s been released so far. We get to see more of the story, along with some new footage including Hit Girl toying with a bloodied Mark Strong, and a girl destroying Kick-Ass’ retinas with hairspray.

HitFix got their hands on a very cool and vibrant poster for Matthew Vaughn’s Kick-Ass, which features Big-Daddy (Nicolas Cage), Hit Girl (Chloë Moretz), Red Mist (Christopher Mintz-Plasse) and Kick-Ass himself (Aaron Johnson).

So far Lionsgate has done a great job marketing this, and if they keep it up they may have a new franchise on their hands (one that isn’t torture-porn).

A new trailer for Matthew Vaughn’s Kick-Ass has appeared online over at Yahoo! This trailer provides us with a lot more footage and story, and we get to see nods to other superhero movies such as Spider-Man and Batman. Nicolas Cage actually wears a Batman suit. Unfortunately this trailer can be viewed by everyone, so we don’t get to see Hit Girl chopping people’s legs off (click here to see that), however it’s still cool.

Collider recently got the chance to talk to Ghost Rider producer Mike De Luca and he gave a bunch on updates on the sequel, including that it may be called Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, and if things work out it could begin filming sometime this year.

Here’s a summary of the main points of interest from the interview:

– Mark Steven Johnson is not directing the sequel

– Eva Mendes will not return as Roxanne Simpson

– Ghost Rider 2 (or Ghost Rider Spirit of Vengeance) will be a hard PG-13

– The film is going to take place in Europe

– De Luca is open to David Goyer directing the sequel but it all comes down to his very busy schedule

– Says the sequel will be like “pushing the reset button” on the franchise

– As you might expect from the success of Avatar, Ghost Rider 2 might be done in 3D

– Says Goyer has just delivered his updated outline to the studio

– And says Ghost Rider 2 could easily be in front of the cameras this year

Last year David Goyer said that the film would take place 8 years after the first film, and that “what Casino Royale was to the Bond movies, hopefully this will be to Ghost Rider”. While this sounds encouraging, I’m not that hopeful it will be that much of an improvement from the first film. I suppose the fact that Mark Steven Johnson won’t be returning to direct is a good thing.

Apple got the first trailer for The Sorcerer’s Apprentice, which is a re-imagining of the 1940 animation which saw an inexperienced Mickey Mouse getting all Harry Potter on a broom to fetch water for him. The only problem was that he didn’t know how to stop it, so he hacked it into pieces with an axe. All this did was create even more brooms and the place became flooded with water. Thankfully the Sorcerer came back and sorted it out, otherwise Mickey Mouse would have drowned and that would have ended Disney right there.

Jerry Bruckheimer is the man behind this modern version and he’s got his National Treasure friend Nicolas Cage to play the Sorcerer, who has been searching the world for Jay Baruchel as he is ‘the chosen one’ and the apprentice.

From the trailer it looks like it will be a fun ride, and i’ll probably see it next July to kill an hour or two.

Apparently that trailer countdown timer on the films official site meant nothing as the trailer for Kick-Ass has found it’s way online early. As it’s the teaser trailer it doesn’t show too much, and those who saw the bootleg trailer from Comic Con may be underwhelmed. However, from what we do see it looks great, and quite funny. It’s gonna be a badass R-rated superhero comedy!

In the film Nicolas Cage plays Big Daddy, Christopher Mintz-Plasse is Red Mist, and Chloe Moretz plays Hit Girl, a 11 year-old assassin.

Back in August Matthew Vaughn brought his independently financed superhero movie Kick-Ass to Comic Con and the huge positive response to the footage provoked a bidding war between a few studios for distribution rights. Lionsgate eventually claimed victory after shelling out $50 million, and swiftly set a April 16th release date. Now we are starting to see the first bit of marketing for the film with IGN releasing 4 new posters.

In related Kick-Ass news AICN received a review for film after a test screening took place in London recently. Here’s a snippet (spoilers):

The comic sets out as a modern deconstruction of the superhero concept, with knowing nods to geekdom surrounding comics, and the film takes that idea and runs with. Littered with references to other superhero films from Batman, Superman and Spiderman (even the Spirit movie gets a hilarious nod), this feels like it is happening in our world, and will drive fellow geeks wild. The film veers ever more into outlandish areas as it goes on, but it always feel believable.

As far as the actors go, Brit Aaron Johnson as Kick-Ass more than fills the lead role ably handling the accent, but I did feel that he lacked the vulnerability of the comic’s Dave Lizewski, never nerdy enough and definitely too buff, but that’s just nit-picking at a role that should catapult him into the big time. Christopher “McLovin” Mintz-Plasse proves that he has what it takes to hold his own in a comedic role as Red Mist, and he seems perfectly cast. Nic Cage, who I wasn’t really to impressed with when I heard he was cast as Big Daddy, proved me wrong by putting in a hilarious, Adam West-esque performance (although his final scenes did raise a few eyebrows for his scene-chewing, but again I won’t spoil it for you).

But the film truly belongs to Chloe Moretz who, as Hit Girl, tears through the film as the baddest pre-pubescent 4 foot badass ever committed to film. She totally owns every scene and provided the audience with at least three bandstanding crowd cheering moments. She’s funny, witty, knowing, hugely crude, and just massively ass-kicking, her Matrix lobby-esque scene at the film’s climax is just incredible, and again should propel her into the big time by just being one of the most incredibly cool characters in any comic book film ever. Badder than Wolverine, funnier than Deadpool, more athletic than Spiderman and cuter than that kid in Runaways. Just f**king awesome.

From the positive reaction to footage at comic con, to this recent review, it seems Matthew Vaughn may have made a rather unique and cool superhero movie. All we need now is a trailer!

In September David Goyer was brought on-board to tone down his 9 year old R-rated Ghost Rider script and set it up as a sequel to 2007’s Ghost Rider cheesefest. He recently spoke to MTV and revealed some more details on Ghost Rider 2, saying it will be “what Casino Royale was to the Bond movies”.

“It’s not exactly a reboot,” said Goyer, who’s currently hard at work on his “FlashForward” television series. “I hate to say it’s more realistic, because he’s got a flaming skull for a head, but it’s a bit more stripped down and darker. It’s definitely changing tone. What ‘Casino Royale’ was to the Bond movies, hopefully this will be to ‘Ghost Rider.’ This story picks up eight years after the first film,” said Goyer. “You don’t have to have seen the first film. It doesn’t contradict anything that happened in the first film, but we’re pretending that our audience hasn’t seen the first film. It’s as if you took that same character where things ended in the first film and then picked it up eight years later—he’s just in a much darker, existential place.”

Nicolas Cage will be back as the man with the flaming skull, and filming will take place next year.

A few days ago we heard that Christoph Waltz from Inglourious Basterds would be joining The Green Hornet as the villain after Nicolas Cage dropped out of the role last week. But why did Cage drop out? Was it money reasons? Other filming commitments? Nope. Apparently he didn’t like the character.

Cage says he “wasn’t interested in just being just a straight-up bad guy who was killing people willy-nilly.”

He says Rogen and Gondry “had a different take on the character” and there wasn’t enough time to develop the script.

“‘The Green Hornet’ was something that I wanted to do, I think Michel Gondry is very talented and I had hoped it would work but I think Seth Rogen and Michel had a different take on the character,” said Cage, who starred in 2007’s supernatural comic book film, “Ghost Rider.”

“I had to have some humanity and to try to give it something where you could understand why the character was the way he was but I don’t think there was enough time to develop it.”

From his recent career choices (The Wicker Man springs to mind) it seems Cage has lost the knack to spot out the good roles from the bad ones, although I’ll admit Kick-Ass does look quite good. I’m actually glad Cage dropped out as it enabled Christoph Waltz to come aboard and he will probably do a better job.
