Tron fans have been following a viral campaign started by Disney a few weeks ago, and the end result was a brand new trailer for Tron Legacy. I wasn’t around when the original Tron movie was released back in 1982 so my anticipation isn’t as high as other movie fans, but after watching this trailer my interest definitely lifted. Hell, I’d see this movie just to listen to Daft Punk’s score.

Sean Flynn (Garrett Hedlund) is the 20-something son of Tron protagonist Kevin Flynn (Jeff Bridges), whose curiosity about his father’s disappearance leads him to the now-abandoned site of Kevin’s old arcade. Inside the old building, Sean is transported into the Computer World and embarks on an adventure in which he learns what has happened to his father, and of the shocking new threat to the Computer World.

Tron Legacy will be released in 3D in December and stars this year’s Best Actor Oscar winner Jeff Bridges along with Michael Sheen, Olivia Wilde and Garrett Hedlund. I have a feeling another blue movie will be dominating the box office this year.

Last week we received the teaser trailer for Tron: Legacy to stimulate our eyeballs, and now we have something to stimulate our ears thanks to the genius that is Daft Punk. Instead of going down the usual orchestral route Disney decided to get the duo to score the music for the film, and you can listen to a track below. No word yet on whether this is the theme tune or just a track from the score.

In other Tron: Legacy news Michael Sheen (The Queen, Frost/Nixon) has joined the cast. His role has not been revealed yet but he is expected to play a baddie.

Update: According to Latino Review this is actually a rework by an artist named Cryda Luv. Sorry about that. Still sounds cool though.

He played former British Prime Minister Tony Blair on TV, then again in The Queen, and will be playing him for a third time in The Special Relationship (with Dennis Quaid as Bill Clinton). He played journalist David Frost on stage, and then again for the film Frost/Nixon. He battled vampires in Underworld: Rise of the Lycans, and according to The Daily Mail he will now become one, as he has joined vampire flick New Moon (sequel to last years Twilight).

Sheen, 40, who made his name with uncannily realistic portrayals of well-known figures in Oscar-winning films The Queen, Frost/Nixon and The Damned United, will get his biggest pay cheque yet, a reported £5million, to star in New Moon.

In New Moon, Sheen will play Aro, the leader of an Italian vampire clan called the Volturi.

Director Chris Weitz confirmed Sheen’s casting to The Mail on Sunday and said he had ‘aggressively’ pursued the actor.

‘Michael’s role is so important because he’s the head of all vampires,’ he said. ‘Aro is, on the surface, a very gracious and friendly vampire, but beneath that he is a tremendous threat.’

Usually The Daily Mail is nothing more than a typical British tabloid, however they have quotes from director Chris Weitz which helps it’s credability, compared to the usual ‘a source says’. I guess this makes Sheen the first ‘real actor’ to join the franchise (I went there) as the other cast members seem to be fresh faced newcomers hired purely for their looks. However like the Harry Potter actors, i’m sure they will grow with each film.

There had been some speculation that Frost/Nixon actor Michael Sheen would be voicing the Cheshire Cat in Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland, however today he denied those rumours, but said he would still be in the film.
