In an interview with Das Gamer, Max Payne director John Moore revealed that he is not too please with the MPAA for giving his cut of the film an R rating.

We’re suffering from what I call Batman blowback. The Motion Picture Association of America gave The Dark Knight a PG-13 rating and basically sucked Warner Bros. cock…The MPAA changes their rules willy-nilly and it depends on who’s seeing your actual movie at the time. It’s very difficult to get a hold on what’s acceptable. The only thing you can use is current standards. So I go and see The Dark Knight and I say, “Gee, that’s pretty gnarly for PG-13,” but I felt good about Max Payne after coming out of the theater. I thought Max wasn’t going to have a problem. And that’s not the case. They’re coming down on us pretty hard.

Moore goes on to say that the MPAA’s inconsistencies are really coming back to haunt the organization:

[The MPAA] really hung themselves with The Dark Knight. Every other filmmaker in town is knocking on their door saying, “Please sir, may I have my PG-13 rating and be as fair to my movie as you were to The Dark Knight.”

The Dark Knight was dark in places, but Christopher Nolan made sure that the Joker slashed people off screen, and kept the blood flow to a minimum. From the Max Payne trailer we can see that it has lots of shooting, daemons and violence, so maybe the MPAA were right in giving it an R rating? Or maybe John Moore is right and they performced oral sex on The Dark Knight. Either way Moore is going to be busy re-editing if he wants a wider PG-13 release.

In the magazine Mark Wahlberg dismisses claims that the film is taking too many pages out of The Matrix’s book.

“They haven’t just ripped off The Matrix, they waited until the technology has been available to do it properly. We’ve been shooting at 1000 frames per second. And I’m not on any wires, either! All the jumping and firing and flipping and landing on my head… That’s all real! We shot it all on film, man!

“We weren’t doing motion capture then sitting around waiting for some studio to deliver the special-effects shots. It’s for real.”

In the article actress Mila Junis revealed her worries about trying to please video-game fans.

“I made the mistake of stumbling on an Internet site of fans and what they thought of the casting,” she says. “I hope I don’t cross them on the street before the movie. Maybe they’ll change their minds when I’m in leather pants and bustier.”
