The first trailer for Clash of the Titans is now online! When I first saw it I wasn’t too sure on the music, however after watching it a few more times it grew on me. The footage itself looks amazing and I’m glad we’ve only got to wait till March to see this.

Clash of the Titans stars Sam Worthington as Perseus, a man born of a god and raised as a man who is helpless to save his family from Hades (Ralph Fiennes), vengeful god of the underworld. With nothing left to lose, Perseus volunteers to lead a dangerous mission to defeat Hades before he can seize power from Zeus (Liam Neeson) and unleash hell on earth. Leading a daring band of warriors, Perseus sets off on a perilous journey deep into forbidden worlds. Battling unholy demons and fearsome beasts, he will only survive if he can accept his power as a god, defy his fate and create his own destiny.

The film also stars Gemma Arterton, Mads Mikkelsen, and Danny Huston with Incredible Hulk director Louis Leterrier directing.

Empire reveal some new Clash of the Titans pics

Empire were sent some exclusive new images from Clash of the Titans, and they look quite cool. The image above features Sam Worthington as Perseus who has a run in with some witches. When I first saw them I thought they were creations of Guillermo del Toro, which is a good thing.

“He’s just your golden hero that you’re meant to follow,” says Worthington of the old Perseus. “I feel when my Perseus starts out, he should be this bombastic tank. The gods have killed his family. He’s Charles Bronson! He’s gonna go for revenge, and the best way to achieve that is to kill the Kraken. Well, to kill the Kraken you gotta kill Medusa. To get to Medusa, you gotta take on the witches. Then once he kills the Kraken, he’s gonna kill fuckin’ Hades and Zeus and everybody else! But along the way he needs to learn to calm down, ask for help. And out of that comes the true hero. A hero isn’t someone who leads men; a hero is someone that’s in the trench with the men.”

MTV were invited to the set of Clash of the Titans and in between takes they managed to interview members of the cast, including Sam Worthington, Gemma Arterton, Liam Cunningham and former Bond villain Mads Mikkelsen. The video below also shows us some behind the scenes action from their shoot in Wales.

Clash of the Titans is directed by The Incredible Hulk director Louis Leterrier and also features Liam Neeson as Zeus and Ralph Fiennes as Hades.

We’ve already seen pictures of Sam Worthington from Clash of the Titans, both on set and official images, and now it’s time for us to direct our eyeballs in the direction of Gemma Arterton.

Arterton plays Io, a mysterious spiritual guide who helps Perseus (Sam Worthington) throughout his journey as he battles unholy demons and fearsome beasts. She will most likely end up as his love interest too. 2010 will be a big year for Gemma as she has Clash of the Titans which is released in March and then two months later Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time hits our screens, which she stars in alongside Jake Gyllenhaal. I think by this time next year people who know who she is and she won’t just be known as ‘that red head who had intercourse with Daniel Craig in Quantum of Solace‘.

Empire got the first official image from Louis Leterrier’s Clash of the Titans earlier this week, and now we have another image to give our mythology shafts a boost. Below we have a shot of Sam Worthington as Perceus, who looks a tad angry.

Dear Warner Bros, please could you give us a shot of Liam Neeson as Zeus, or one of Ralph Fiennes as Hades? I don’t think I could handle the epicness contained within so release them one at a time please.

Danny Huston to play Poseidon in Clash of the Titans

According to THR Danny Huston (X-Men Origins: Wolverine, 30 Days of Night) has joined the cast of Louis Leterrier’s Clash of the Titans. Huston will play Poseidon, God of the sea, alongside Liam Neeson as Zeus and Ralph Fiennes as Hades. Filming began in studios outside London this week.

In Clash of the Titans, the ultimate struggle for power pits men against kings and kings against gods. But the war between the gods themselves could destroy the world. Born of a god but raised as a man, Perseus (Sam Worthington) is helpless to save his family from Hades (Ralph Fiennes), vengeful god of the underworld. With every bit of casting news for Clash of the Titans I got just that bit more interested in it. The final ‘I will be seeing this regardless’ moment came when Liam Neeson and Ralph Fiennes came on-board as Zeus and Hades. The good news today is that filming will begin shortly, and below are more details on the film:

Leading the international cast is Australian actor Sam Worthington as Perseus, the mortal son of Zeus, king of the gods. Ralph Fiennes to play Hades in Clash of the Titans

According to Variety Ralph Fiennes is in negotiations to play Hades, God of the Underworld, in Clash of the Titans. If all goes well Fiennes will be joining Gemma Arterton, Mads Mikkelsen, Alexa Davalos and Sam Worthington in the film, which tells the story of Zeus’ son, Perseus, and his battles against mythological beasts such as Medusa. Filming is expected to begin in around 2 weeks time, so these negotiations better get sorted out sharpish. It is not yet known whether Liam Neeson will still be playing Zeus as the recent death of his wife, Natasha Richardson, may make him unavailable.

Louis Leterrier (The Incredible Hulk) is directing, and in the past he said he hopes to turn Clash of the Titans into an epic Greek mythology franchise. Lets hope that happens, as we could do with one!

Update: According to THR Neeson is on-board:

Neeson is playing Zeus, the wise yet sometimes ill-tempered king of the gods and father of Perseus (Sam Worthington).
Fiennes will play Hades, ruler of the underworld who aims to overtake Zeus and rule over all. Fiennes’ deal is in still in negotiations.

Gemma Arterton joins Clash of the Titans

The last time we saw Gemma Arterton was last November in Quantum of Solace as Agent Fields, and now she has joined Sam Worthington (Avatar, Terminator Salvation) in Clash of the Titans. According to /film she will be playing Io, a priestess of Hera who will be the love interest of Worthington, who is playing Perseus.

Gemma seems to be getting herself in a lot of big movies recently, having just finished filming Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time with Jake Gyllenhaal.

Clash of the Titans is a remake of the 1981 epic and tells the story of Zeus’ son (Perseus) and his battles against mythology beasts such as Medusa. Filming will begin in 3 weeks time, and it will be directed by Louis Leterrier (The Incredible Hulk).

Liam Neeson had been cast as Zeus but following the heartbreaking death of his wife, Natasha Richardson, it’s not yet known whether he’s still available to do it.

War of the Gods and Clash of the Titans Casting

I am somewhat suspicious that The Hollywood Reporter have revealed casting news for both War of the Gods and Clash of the Titans at the same time. However, it makes things interesting so I will put my suspicions aside.

War of the Gods and Clash of the Titans. Both Greek mythology-themed projects. Both currently in pre-production. Both inspired by 300 and both wanting to be released first.

THR say that Sam Worthington, who is mostly likely going to be huge by the end of 2009 after Terminator Salvation and Avatar, is in talks to play the role of Perseus in Clash of the Titans which will be directed by The Incredible Hulk director Louis Leterrier. The film is a remake of the 1981 epic and tells the story of Zeus’ son Perseus and his battles against mythology beasts such as Medusa.

Meanwhile, Henry Cavill (The Tudors, nearly Superman in Superman Returns) is being lined up to play Theseus in War of the Gods. The film is about a war between Gods and humans.

At the moment Gods has the edge as it will begin filming in February and has a bigger budget ($85 million), whereas Titans has a smaller budget of $70 million and will start filming in April.

If you were a fan of the drama surrounding the 2008 Presidential Election then this epic battle may keep you interested in 2009. I suspect we will get accusations flying around that Sam Worthington has never put lipstick on a Minotaur, and that Henry Cavill has been associating with Hydra’s.
