I don’t know whether there’s something in the water at the Cannes Film Festival, or whether Shia LaBeouf is always this direct, but he’s made yet more comments on past movies he isn’t fond of.

Earlier this week the actor said he “wasn’t impressed” with Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, and today when discussing Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull he said he feels like he “dropped the ball on the legacy that people loved and cherished”.

From The L.A. Times:

“You get to monkey-swinging and things like that and you can blame it on the writer and you can blame it on Steven [Spielberg, who directed]. But the actor’s job is to make it come alive and make it work, and I couldn’t do it. So that’s my fault. Simple.”

LaBeouf said that he could have kept quiet, especially given the movie’s blockbuster status, but didn’t think the film had fooled anyone. “I think the audience is pretty intelligent. I think they know when you’ve made (slop). And I think if you don’t acknowledge it, then why do they trust you the next time you’re promoting a movie.” LaBeouf went on to say he wasn’t the only star on the film who felt that way. “We [Harrison Ford and LaBeouf] had major discussions. He wasn’t happy with it either. Look, the movie could have been updated. There was a reason it wasn’t universally accepted.”

Asked whether this was difficult to say, given his deep relationship with Spielberg, LaBeouf continued with the directness.

“I’ll probably get a call. But he needs to hear this. I love him. I love Steven. I have a relationship with Steven that supersedes our business work. And believe me, I talk to him often enough to know that I’m not out of line. And I would never disrespect the man. I think he’s a genius, and he’s given me my whole life. He’s done so much great work that there’s no need for him to feel vulnerable about one film. But when you drop the ball you drop the ball.”

It’s refreshing to see an actor give honest answers instead of just hiding behind the PR people. Crystal Skull may have been the worst reviewed Indiana Jones movie (77% on Rotten Tomatoes) and there were a few problems here and there (such as with the monkey scene which Shia mentioned), but it wasn’t that bad.

LaBeouf said last year that Spielberg has “cracked the story” for Indiana Jones 5, so maybe they’ll be able to work out their mistakes (Shia already knows his) and improve the next outing.

Sean Connery turned down the chance to reprise the role of Henry Jones Sr. in Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull because he was apparently enjoying retirement too much (even though it was only thought to be a cameo). Well MTV recently spoke to him and asked whether he had seen the film, and what his thoughts were.

“Did I see the latest? Yes, I did,” he said, adding, “I thought it was rather good.” But the screen legend did have one criticism of the film: “Rather long.”

So Sean Connery liked Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. I can now get a good nights sleep with that knowledge.

Paramount have announced that they will release Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull on DVD and Blu-ray Disc on October 14th.

For those who haven’t seen it, the movie stars Harrison Ford, Cate Blanchett, Ray Winstone and Shia LaBeouf, and has made $776.2 million worldwide.

IESB have been sent four new images of the upcoming Indiana Jones movie. Some random scooper sent them in via an Imageshack link, so they may not be online for long.

One image that caught my eye is the one you see below, of Shia LaBeouf giving Cate Blanchett a fist in the face. If this were real life I would pounce on Shia, thwack him in the face, and tell him not to put his filthy hands on an Oscar winning actress ever again! But as this is from a movie I can live with it, although I will feel a small amount of rage when I finally see Kingdom of the Crystal Skull in May. (I somehow get the feeling that the character Cate Blanchett is playing may deserve it)

Ha! Only joking! Transformers 2 is not cancelled…although Shia was injured on the set of Indiana Jones: Kingdom of the Crystal Skull…but not severely. He told MTV:

“I pulled a rotator cuff in my hip,” Shia LaBeouf said, gesturing to his waist. “It’s the only time in my career I’ve ever been injured. What happened was, because the injury got worse and worse as the movie went on, I pulled my groin also. [The groin] is not a good thing to have anything happen to.”

But injuries are temporary, and film is forever. And this particular scene, the one where he pulled his hip, just happens to be his favorite scene in the movie — one where he gets to finally step into the light as the heir to Indiana Jones.

And we can’t tell you a darn thing about it … yet. Though we will say (because Shia admitted to it on the red carpet), that it has to do with a sword fight

Lets hope his groin heals swiftly, as he is going to start filming a fairly large movie in June, which goes by the name of Transformers 2. Although, if he is still in pain he could get Megan Fox to massage it for him. That will cure his groin pains I’m sure!

The first trailer for Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull was apparently seen more than 200 million times worldwide in the first week alone, so it is safe to say that people will be interested in seeing the next one. If back in 1989 a marketing guy suggested using a ‘widget’ to promote Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, he would no doubt have been hit over the face and most likely fired instantly. However, now in 2008 the idea is held as genius and it is likely that a guy over at Paramount’s marketing department now has his own parking space.

If you divert your eyes to the right sidebar, you will see this ‘widget’. It includes access to Indiana Jones news, past trailers and will no doubt be hosting the next trailer whenever it arrives. I will be keeping it there until the trailer is released, but if they have more interesting things popping up on it then I will keep it there for a little while longer, so keep your eye on it.

You can also put the widget on your own blogs and any social networking sites you are on.

Three small updates on three different films:

ComingSoon say that the next Terminator film will no longer be called Terminator Salvations: The Future Begins, which is rather good news. The movie will start filming without a title and is aiming for a release of next May.

A second trailer for Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull will be seen in April, which brings me onto…

..Iron Man, which is apparently being released a few days earlier in some places. Some people will be able to see it on the 30th of next month, instead of May 2nd as originally planned. As Paramount own both Iron Man and Indy, it is expected that the new Indy trailer will be attached to Iron Man, hence the title saying two are ‘somewhat related’.

USA Today got first look at a brand new poster for Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. The poster shows a skull directly in the middle, which doesn’t look human. It also has Ray Winestone looking like a Frenchman and Indiana Jones running from some natives, which reminds me of the scene in Dead Man’s Chest where Jack Sparrow runs for his life.
