Josh Duhamel (Transformers) and Dan Fogler (Fanboys) have signed on to star in a new road trip movie called Scenic Route. Written by “Lone Star” and “Awake” creator Kyle Killen, who also wrote the Mel Gibson movie The Beaver, this film surrounds two college friends who get lost in the desert on a road trip and the realization dawns on them that this could be the end.

Duhamel hasn’t really had much of a chance to show off his acting chops with the roles he’s had so far, mostly playing the straight man to crazy situations around him. But Fogler has shown great comedic timing in a lot of his roles, so I think this could be an interesting match. (Maybe this will be like Gus Van Sant’s Gerry, featuring only two characters.) Killen won me over with his cancelled-too-soon series “Lone Star” on FOX last year, and I’m excited to see how “Awake” does when it debuts next week. That show stars Jason Issacs and has a cool alternate reality premise, so the theme of duality seems to be consistent in Killen’s work; perhaps Scenic Route will give us a bit more in that department.

Movies.com points us to a recent interview in which Transformers star Josh Duhamel talks with E! Online about the future of the franchise. While he seems to speak pretty freely for the entire cast, I’d recommend taking this news with a grain of salt. Michael Bay is still a ways out from filming on this one – the explosive director has Pain and Gain lined up to shoot first – so there’s still time for things to shake out a bit differently. Read what Duhamel had to say after the break.

Here’s the quote in question:

I don’t think anybody’s doing it. I know Shia [LaBoeuf]‘s not doing it. I don’t think Tyrese or Rosie [Huntington-Whiteley] or anybody else is doing it. Whenever these movies make that much money they’re going to make as many as they can,” he said. “[But] I haven’t heard anything about it. They haven’t called me.

Since the announcement that Bay would return to direct, the internet community has been speculating about whether this new movie might concentrate more heavily on the robots instead of their human counterparts. Duhamel’s comments seem to support this theory, but like I said – there’s still a bunch of time before it even begins production. Transformers 4 is scheduled to hit theaters in the summer of 2014. The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts & Sciences has teamed up with Funny or Die to produce a trailer for the 84th Academy Awards, which will air February 26th.

The trailer features former Transformers co-stars Josh Duhamel and Megan Fox on the hunt for Oscar host Billy Crystal, and they meet a few familiar faces along the way (namely William Fichtner, Vinnie Jones and Robin Williams).

The Oscar nominations will be announced on Tuesday, January 24th.

Entertainment Tonight’s visited the set of Transformers: Dark of the Moon earlier this year and have now posted a behind the scenes video of the action, which takes place on a destroyed street in Chicago.

Shia LaBeouf, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Tyrese Gibson, Josh Duhamel and director Michael Bay are all on set, and they talk about how the third movie will improve upon and differ from the previous outing. We also see some cool aerial stunts, and of course, explosions.

The Autobots, led by Optimus Prime, are back in action, taking on the evil Decepticons, who are determined to avenge their defeat in 2009’s Transformers Revenge of the Fallen. In this new movie, the Autobots and Decepticons become involved in a perilous space race between the U.S. and Russia, and once again human Sam Witwicky has to come to the aid of his robot friends. There’s new characters too, including a new villain in the form of Shockwave, a longtime “Transformers” character who rules Cybertron while the Autobots and Decepticons battle it out on Earth.

Transformers: The Dark Of The Moon will be released on July 1st 2011.

Variety has confirmed that Kevin Dunn and Julie White have closed their deals to return in Transformers 3 as Ron and Judy Witwicky, which was expected. In the previous films they were used as the comic relief, with Michael Bay letting Julie White expand her acting range a little by getting her character high on marijuana. What he’ll have them do next time round is anyone’s guess.

Regulars Shia Labeouf, Megan Fox, Josh Duhamel and Tyrese Gibson will also be returning, and we heard last month that Frances McDormand, John Malkovich and Ken Jeong will be joining the cast. Shooting is set to begin in May and Transformers 3 is currently slated to hit on July 1st 2011.

Latino Review brings word that Samuel L. Jackson and Josh Duhamel are attached to star in a new pulpy thriller called Sympathy For The Devil. Not to be confused with a few other recent projects that share the same title, this Devil features Jackson and Duhamel as humans caught in the middle of a spiritual battle between heaven and hell.

The project is in early pre-production, so it will be a while before we see any photos or footage, but this sounds like another entry into the spiritual “end of the world” movies of the past few years (Knowing, Legion, even 1999′s End of Days). LR also mention that Remember The Titans director Boaz Yakin is set to direct. The script is already written (although we don’t know the writer yet), and apparently all that stands between the film and production is selling the distribution rights to secure funding.

Here’s the plot synopsis: Caught in the no-man’s land between Saturday night sin and Sunday morning redemption, Louisiana lawman Harlan Stark (Josh Duhamel) finds that his intervention into a spectacular crime –the bold attempt to assassinate a charismatic preacher –soon escalates into a cosmic confrontation between Heaven and Hell, where angels are warriors as dangerous as demons. Harlan and his loyal partner Jesse (Samuel L. Jackson) stand at the fulcrum between vengeful good and devious evil, with neither side showing anything like mercy. Harlan must find the courage to break the cycle, and reject fanatical revenge –yet he too finds himself transformed. Outrageous, violent and subversive, this new adventure in horror from the director of Remember the Titans is sure to be controversial. The first shows Shia and Megan Fox running for their lives. The second shows Josh Duhamel doing extreme sunbathing with some Autobot/Decepticon hieroglyphics, and the third shows filming at the Pyramids in Egypt.

We knew that Shia LaBeouf would be back, and that Isabel Lucas and Rainn Wilson have been added. However there hasn’t been much talk about the other cast members returning. I think most people thought that they all signed for more movies, but the question was whether their characters would be back. Thankfully, The Hollywood Reporter have confirmed that Megan Fox, Josh Duhamel, Tyrese Gibson and John Turturro will be back, playing Mikaela Banes, Captain Lennox, USAF Tech Sergeant Epps and Agent Simmons.

This is good news. It is always handy for sequels, which will eventually become trilogies, to have familiar faces.
