Last month we heard that Kate Beckinsale had been offered one of the lead roles in Len Wiseman’s Total Recall remake, and now Collider has confirmed that Beckinsale has officially signed on, as has Jessica Biel (The A-Team) who will play the other lead female role, Melina.

The movie ditches the Martian storyline from the original 1990 movie and instead involves nation states Euromerica and New Shanghai. Colin Farrell plays Douglas Quaid, a factory worker in New Shanghai who begins to believe he is a spy — although he doesn’t know for which side.

With filming set to begin on Monday in Toronto other cast members are being confirmed, and Heat Vision reports that Bill Nighy (Underworld, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1) will play Quatto, the leader of the resistance.

Total Recall is scheduled for released on August 3rd, 2012.

If you aren’t watching “Community,” you’re missing out. The NBC comedy, starring Joel McHale as smooth-talking ex-lawyer Jeff Winger, is one of the funniest shows on TV and a must-watch for pop culture junkies. McHale, also the host of “The Soup” on the E! Network, has been tiptoeing his way into feature films over the past couple of years.

Now, Variety reports the up-and-coming actor has joined Jessica Alba in Robert Rodriguez’s reboot of his own Spy Kids franchise, titled Spy Kids: All the Time in the World.

In the fourth entry in the franchise, McHale is set to play a “spy-hunting reporter married to Alba’s character.” Alba joined the project a while back, based (presumably) on her positive working relationship with Rodriguez – she starred in Sin City back in 2005 and recently worked with him again on Machete. In this film, she’ll play a reactivated former spy who is the stepmother of the new Spy Kids.

I’m glad to see McHale further establish himself in the feature film world, and I’m sure this movie will easily be a lot of fun for the audiences it’s aiming to please.

Spy Kids: All the Time in the World will hit theaters on August 19th, 2011.

The Hollywood Reporter has news that Jessica Alba is in negotiations to star in Spy Kids 4: All the Time in the World for director Robert Rodriguez. The director hired Alba for Sin City and Machete, which will be released next month, so I think we can now call Jessica Alba one of his regulars.

Details on her role from THR:

The new movie centers on Alba as a retired spy who has been reactivated. The actress, mother of a toddler in real life, will be playing the mother of a baby and two preteen stepchildren.

The actors cast in the preteen roles will be the new Spy Kids.

Other roles seeking to be filled include Alba’s husband, a slightly nerdy investigative reporter (might I suggest Borys Kit?), and the villain, known as the Time Keeper, whose goal it is to stop time.

The site also mentions that Alexa Vega and Daryl Sabara (the original Spy Kids) will return in supporting roles along with Antonio Banderas.

Spy Kids 4: All the Time in the World (which has a budget of less than $30 million) will begin filming next month in Austin.

Jessica Alba will be playing a prostitute who gets murdered in The Killer Inside Me, according to THR. Casey Affleck will play a West Texas sheriff who goes on a downward spiral from being a boring small-town cop into a ruthless, sociopathic murderer.

The film is based off the novel by author Jim Thompson and it has been made into a film before in 1976. The Mighty Heart director Michael Winterbottom will direct.

I can see where Alba is trying to take her career. She wasn’t getting taken as a serious actress with films such as The Love Guru and Good Luck Chuck, so she must have told her agent she wants the total opposite of what she has been doing. As a result she is currently filming drama An Invisible Sign of My Own where she plays a genius, and now she will be playing a prostitute.

Next we can expect her to play a schizophrenic drug addict followed by a lesbian serial killer. She will get an Oscar and we will take her seriously!

No, Fantastic Four 3 is not happening, although Jessica Alba has just joined a movie with a slight connection. Alba will lead An Invisible Sign of My Own, a film that revolves around a young woman who has retreated from the world and is consumed by numbers and math. Things begin to change when she becomes a second-grade math teacher.

To be honest i’m not sure my imagination will be able to stretch that far. I’m all for people trying new things however I probably won’t be able to take her seriously after the years of popcorn fluff she has been in. If they give her glasses there is a chance she will only look hotter, so they are going to have to uglier her up. (Not that all smart people are ugly. Although, if you are both smart and attractive then good for you!)

I suspect it will be bad whatever they decide to do.

The trailer for Mike Myers’ The Love Guru was released earlier this week and it did not make everyone laugh. A Hindu organization, Universal Society of Hinduism, has demanded that the film be shown to Hindu leaders and organizations prior to its public release. The reason:

Rajan Zed, prominent Indo-American leader and President of the Society, said that from the information available about the movie, it appears to be lampooning Hinduism and Hindus and using Hindu terms frivolously.

There have been issues with religion and movies before, most recently with The Golden Compass, and again with Mel Gibson’s Passion Of The Christ back in 2004. To my knowledge the only thing gained from it was more publicity for the film. I don’t know what the Hindu leaders can do, apart from possibly get a free early screening. The studios have spent millions making the movie and they will release it whether it upsets people or not.

The email I received pointed out that:

Hinduism is the oldest and third largest religion of the world with about one billion followers and a rich philosophical thought, and it should not be taken lightly

Do Paramount want to piss off one billion people? Will those one million people have gone to see The Love Guru anyway? Do you think the Universal Society of Hinduism is over-reacting or do they have a right to be annoyed that a movie is turning their religion into a romantic comedy staring Jessica Alba?

I have always seen the Fantastic Four as the children’s version of X-Men. The plots are less heavy, and not many issues are raised. Its just a fun ride with a little bit of cheese. So much infact, that Jessica Alba and Ioan Gruffudd have been nominated for Worst Screen Couple for 4: Rise of the Silver Surfer. Jessica also has a worst actress nomination. But I suppose the Razzies are a fun ride with a bit of cheese as well.

We have had the first two films, so what about the third? Its only natural for us to get another one. So what’s going on? IESB asked Jessica Alba that very question.

IESB: How long until we get Fantastic Four 3?

Jessica Alba: I have no idea. I know the writers strike and the impending actors strike has kind of put a wrench in everything production wise. That film takes a lot of prep, a good six months of prep and about six months to shoot. With the strike, I think, maybe it’s put on hold.

IESB: In the Fantastic Four comics your character becomes a mother. Would you like to see that in the film?

JA: Little Franklin? Yeah, I think that would be hilarious. He’s so powerful, I think that would be a really interesting dynamic a mother-child dynamic. She’s still a superhero but she’s super-protective and he’s wild, he can do anything and has no sense of what’s appropriate, that would be really fun.
